*nod* When i was level seven or so i had a heck of a time beating those goblins. I am at level 15 and they still prove to be a bit of a challenge.

you havent levelled properly if the goblins are a challenge. I think you guys have put a lot of points into non-vital stats.

Nope. Even with a badly built char, i really didn't start noticing till at least level 10 that it was a problem. But you may be leveling too fast. The way you level in this game, is that if you get 10 skill points in your major skills. So put a few of your desired skills in Major, but don't put all of them. If you want to be like a thief, but blade, light armor, block, bow in major skills... but put sneak in minor. Sneak goes up so insanely fast, especially as a thief.

dunno if this helps anyone else
but for me when the game locks up...that is it wont do anythhing and all i see is the still image of the game.
i found if i go to taskmanager and highlight oblivion then click switchto it suddenly works again, nothing else ever made it work so if it happens to you give that a try

btw great game, i'll probably have to get a strategy guide to see everything in the game, although the main quest is kind short and easy

I'm don't think I am leveling too fast...Lvl 8 after about 5 hours of gameplay, mostly spending time clearing dungeons as a Redguard warrior.

My character major skills are: Blade, Block, Heavy Armor, Security, Armorer, Restoration, Marksman. The ones that keeps going up the most are the first four, plus my sign is Warrior and favored stats are strength and agility. I don't powerlevel with x5 stats though.

Equipment is a silver longsword and full steel armor set and I keep them in tip-top condition with armorer.

Still, I need at least 10 slashes to take down a goblin skimisher or a skeleton guardian at mid difficulty...Is that normal or am I weak?

Skeleton Guardians are pretty tough, I just had to tangle with one of those last night.

Luckily, my high sneak skill and and markman abilities allowed me to strike safely from the shadows....but it took a surprising number of 3x damage arrows to take it down.

I'm using the limited weight limit one, and i haven't ran into the limit it (i have the white horse, which is the strongest of them all i believe)... and i'm storing all my potions (like 100), extra sets of armor (i go back and forth from heavy to light to work on both skills), extra weapons, alchemy stuff, etc.

With the ring that calls my horse, this is like the best mod. When i'm in a dungeon and loaded with loot, i just go out, call my horse, unload my loot on it, then go back into the dungeon.

Ring that calls the horse? Is that a mod?

there's some others also.
Something wierd about that quest with me was that he was never there at midnight for me either... but I still had the quest so the next night, I showed up a bit earlier - like 10:30pm and he was there. And then I'd go back again for the next part, wait until midnight and he wouldn't be there, but then he would be the next day at 11:15pm. He seemed to be there from 10pm until just before midnight. So it was like the quest description is wrong.

That was a neat quest - a little tedious but neat.

Did you guys use the Wait feature? Because if you did, sometimes it takes him awhile to make the rounds (other NPCs too). I usually just do a wait till 11pm or so, and wait the rest... he always shows up for me... and i've done this quest 3 times now (i keep rerolling! )

It is a mod... i'm on my work computer atm, so i don't have the url saved... but check out the official mod forum, it's in there somewhere. I'll get back to you tonight or tomorrow if you haven't found it yet.

I think you're lvling too fast. But 10 slashes to take down a gob or skeleton is about right. If you haven't learned how to strafe yet, do so. After each block, you can easily get 3 hits in before you need to step back. I block, then start strafing to my left while attacking... i can easily get 3 hits in before i reach their back, and if iv'e done enough dmg to them, that'll even stun them, and i can get a couple more hits right at their back.

that's what i was talking about . . . but you don't even have to go into Task Manager . . . just wait awhile . . .it tends to "resolve" itself.

As to beating the Skeletons, it seems Magik Spells take them down fasten then mele.

i guess i am leveling correctly . . . about 15 hours into the game at Level 3 . . . and i get Mass Multipliers on just about everything when i do . . . still really working on my Minor Skills.

loving it!

aloha [back to Oblivion . . . i was just 'checking in']

my guy never showed up, for days. it's not something wrong with the quest description, it's a bug in the triggers when you save.

here's another bug in the triggers that i came across:

***SPOILERS***

On the main quest when you're taking the heir and the dude to the temple for protection, if you encounter any bandit on the road, you'll all stop and kill the guy. But sometimes, the heir and the dude will stop following you. I ended up just fast transporting there, and they showed up behind me.

Seems like they could have used 3, maybe even 4 different levels of detail for terrain and buildings way off in the distance.

On a side note, I had some fun with deer tonight. I found a group of 5 of them all standing around eachother, so I picked them off with my bow one by one. Which brings up another thing I find amusing. I can shoot 6 arrows at a deer and he won't run... won't even move when each arrow hits him. Just goes about his business eating grass...

here is a guide made specifically for you. look on the first page of that.

I'm not Power Leveling my char at all, getting 2s and 3s for the stat bumps, an occasional 5... difficulty is scaling up at a pace I can keep up with. Lvl 11, I have Blade - Block - Armorer - Light Armor - Marksman - Security - Sneak, I throw everything into Strength, Agility and Endurance with a dash of Speed here and there, only if it's a 3 or 5. Blade and Sneak are Journeyman level, almost everything else is in the 40s somewhere.

I'm encountering Atronachs and baby Clannfear, and I'm able to take 'em out if they aren't ganging up on me - but that's what sneaky battle tactics are for (this is one way the bow really shines). Stealthy critical arrow hit from across a room, draw out that monster, plink it a couple more times as it closes in, switch to sword, beat it up. Rinse and repeat. Sneak up on the last one and give it a 6x damage Power Swing to the back of the head. It's easy to forget to use Power Attacks in the heat of battle, but they make a HUGE difference. Just gotta get the timing and maneuvering right to use them well. Speed helps quite a bit with that.

Do enhancements to skills not affect requirements?

i.e. My Dark Brotherhood outfit puts my illusion at 50. But, I still can't use invisible because I'm not at 50. I'm not sure if I'm journeyman for that either.

You need "hard" points to get promoted to apprentice, journeyman, etc.

I've been playing for the last couple hours. I'm pretty impressed with how well it's actually running on my system. Fun game, but I don't think I have the patience for a game like this, nor the time right now.

Somehow I doubt that... a guide specifically for me... sounds like sarcasm, so I responded in kind.
