What is the quickest way to get over 5000 gold? .. without cheating or hacks.
Just lots of pillage and plunder?

What happened to the promises of a greatly improved AI system? Too many times I've seen allies jump into pits of lava when chasing monsters or get stuck on ledges. This is the most disappointing aspect of the game. Enemies always make the same predictable beeline and generally only have 2-3 moves in their repertoire. I've also seen friendly NPCs attack each other, like Imperial woodsmen, and when I attack guards, the townspeople will also start attacking the guard once he hits me and then a huge skirmish breaks out. It's funny to watch, but I'm sure that's not the way they intended it to work.

I think the AI is fantastic. I've never seen a game with better AI personally. You're going to get pathing bugs no matter what, unless you make the NPCs stationary... but at least in this game, they eventually come out of the pathing bugs themselves... well they did all the times i've encountered them.

Why did the townspeople help you attack the guards? How high was your disposition with them? Because when i attack the guards, the townspeople attack me.

The AI you saw in the demos were set to the highest settings though... if you listened to the demo, they even said that, and it wouldn't be set this high in the game. Maybe in a few more years, when multiple cores are the standard, they can crank the AI up some more.

No real need. You can get the mansion in Anvil for 5k, but i'm hearing that only the chest in the bedroom keeps your stuff permanently... i put lockpicks in every container in that house, and so far, they're still there, so that may just be incorrect information.

But i have like over 40k gold now, and i still pretty much live in the shack... even though i have the Anvil mansion. The saddlebag is the best mod though, i keep my most commonly used stuff on my horse.

For cheap housing - you practically own Weynon Priory after the first main quest event. There is 1 specific chest inside Weynon Priory that actually belongs to you (the guy tells you you can use it) but do not store things anywhere else there as I can't vouch for them staying safe. You can also sleep here in most of the beds so for all intents and purposes you own it FREE of charge. The chest that you can use is up on the second floor of Weynon Priory on the right side. So go up the stairs, turn right and head towards the back of the room and the chest is on your right.

After Weynon Priory, I highly suggest the haunted manor in Anvil! The quest rocks a whole ton and the house is really huge for what you pay.

I'm a vampire now and it sucks. Luckily I'm also the Archmage so I have all the gems. I'm just gonna use the console cheat to get the ingredients. For me, being a vamp is no fun. There's too much other cool stuff to do than be hindered. Being a mage, I don't have any use for Vamp skills.

As for storage, you don't need a house. I just throw my stuff of the floor in the Arcance University and travel very light so I can pick stuff up and sell it. The Wizard spell + shock staff = GG for anything.

The armor you get from being grand champion is the best I've seen so far.

Heh that armor isnt that great. I sold that

Keep in mind, when you where those, you cant wear any other items like greaves, gloves and such.

Get a good armor like Glass for light or daedric and enchant it. I enchanted all my items(of the ones I didnt have uniques for).

You mean the armor from the Arena? If so, yeah, it sucks... it gets damaged way too easily, because normal armor would spread out the damage across difference pieces... whereas this takes the full brunt. I've been in more than a few fights where i come out with my armor at 0.

I'm hoping to pick up Glass or Ebony soon and start enchanting some of the stuff.

Yup it does suck. The fact it doesnt let you use other pieces of armor with it just makes it even worse.

Yeah glass armor is good. There a bunch of good uniques in the game. But a good daedric or glass enchanted works.

I was actually going light armor, then I found out those "feather" spells, let you run insanely fast even wearing heavy stuff. So I decided to go heavy instead and use my elite pack mule spell. I can move pretty fast now even wearing heavy.

Holy crap. This thread is almost 600 posts and the Mods want just 2 Oblivion threads? IMO that's just unreasonable. Who's going to sift through 700 messages? I started Oblivion and got about 5 hours in before losing my character due to a Windows reload. After reading the last page of this thread and how complex Oblivion is I'm not sure I want to play it. Seems like it requires a lot of previous RPG experience (Morrowind?) and a *lot* of time invested, especially if you're an RPG noob like me.

you don't need any previous elder scrolls game experience at all. you don't really need any rpg experience at all.

just do whatever you want really. everything is laid out pretty simple.

Imagine if there hadn't been a crackdown on the threads. Lets assume there is an average response of 4 posts in each, so you are looking at an extra 150 threads from from Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. Excessive, IMHO. I like the single thread idea. If I want to get really indepth, i'll visit elderscrolls.com

Yeah but I read some threads here and there about characters and what class and skills to choose and how to level up and I haven't even mentioned the mods. I've heard a lot of complaints about some of the weaknesses of the game and how they're overcome by mods. IMO there should be a dedicated thread to the mods or tweaks.

For those interested, you can get the official guide for under $13 shipped. See the thread HERE

You don't need any previous Morrowind experience... i had all of 30mins of Morrowind before i called it quits (hated the combat). It's a complex game if you want to make it complex... that's part of the beauty of it... it's so huge, and you have so much freedom to do pretty much anything you want.

oblivion is my very first rpg and it's not hard to pick up on at all. I really have been loving it and although there has been a lot to learn and figure out, it only gets to be more fun the more you play it. You don't ahve to be as advanced as some of the guys on here from the start.... you can start out simple and once you've played for a while you will understand how it all works much better.

Some of the closures were absolutely ridiculous, though, in particular the picture one. That was a large thread and should be kept separate, but if the mods have their way this thread would have been flooded with those pictures instead >.>

Back on topic, this is my first single-player RPG. It seemed daunting at first, but it's a great game once you gain an understanding of what's going on.

Is there any way to speed up the loading? It seems like it takes forever, and sometimes isn't even going to the HD.

That's great! This forum is only useful to direct people to other forums that would contain more information.

We should do the same thing to the Videocards section. Limit things to one official thread. Same thing to the OS thread.

I don't like going to the official forum, because 1, they're all full of people bitching. 2, idiots like putting spoilers in thread titles. 3, it's slow as hell.

Why can't there be a good medium?

Wow, i don't have that problem at all. If anything, i'm absolutely amazed at how fast things load. It's incredible. And my HDD is a 60GB 7200rpm.

Yeah, same here. After morrowind I couldn't really believe how fast things loaded.

A bug or a hardware issue maybe?

i haven't failed picking a lock - yet [even the 5 tumbler 'hard' ones] and have many dozens of lockpicks . . . is that why my security level increases so slowly . . . you actually have to break lockpicks to increase it?
:Q

i'll try that . . . i only need a couple

and i am having trouble actually buying a house . . . in Skingard - after wasting tons of time with the Ork. i was told i need more "fame".

what's an easy "starter" house?

{to store my extra 'junk' . . . will i actuall "need" a Staff of Dispel?}

I thought buying the house in bruma was pretty easy, and isn't THAT expensive I don't guess. You just have to sweet talk the countess. She even gives you a quest when you talk to her. It was 10,000 gold and I keep all my junk there. Got a goblin staff, warhammer of dispel, extra black hand robes (coolest clothes ever), etc etc. I only carry what I need so I am able to pick up as much loot as possible.

yes there is

thanks for the answers . . .

Well, i went for the Shack on the Waterfront Cheap - enough to dump my spoils there - i don't have to furnish it do i?. . . i made friends with all the neighbors. . . . How secure is it? Does anyone steal from you?

nice tip, skace on Weynon Priory . . . i already have the Prior's horse and my other one is just stabled - in case [i see horses can be killed].

what is the Staff of Dispel all about?

i figured out what the Soul Trap Warhammer was for . . . do i go for the higher value harder-to-kill souls and are my Soul Gems autimatically filled?

i am quite sure i am bumbling thru the game . . . but am having a blast!
