i DID make honest selections . . . i just didn't know what to expect from this game.

You are a noob to the genre so we can cut you some slack, the guys that have been playing these games for years knew what they were getting in to. That's why I was able to create a character that could level up extremely quickly with ease- anyone who knows ES knows the basics of the systems used.

I'm a thief so I've pretty much stolen every soul gem that I could find, and now I pretty much need to buy them in order to keep up with how fast I'm using them.

Azura's Star is required for those into heavy enchanting. If you gave it up in the main quest I feel for you. I've used mine hundreds of times(I've created over a hundred enchanted items and I recharge my glass mace frequently).

Ebony blades... again, i didn't see too many magical versions, if any.

Transcendant Sigil Stone plus ebony blade makes a pretty nasty magical weapon. Not as nasty as some of the better daedric offerings, but plenty powerful enough.

huh?

For me, Azura's Star was required to complete the Main Quest. . . . Martin needs it for me to progress and get the next item? How do i NOT give it up and still complete the Quest?

Should i just do everything else first?

[and how do you use it? . . . when i tried to Capture a major Daedra, it said i didn't have a large enough Soul Gem]

That portion of the quest was poorly written. Martin needs any daedric artifact i.e. any of the gifts from the Daedric Shrines. But this is not clear in what the quest log says. The first time through the game, I made the mistake of giving him Azura's Star. I will not be doing so this time.

Well, when you give him the Azura Star, he gives you multiple opportunities to not give it to him. When i heard he said that there's only one in the world, and it would be gone forever if i gave it to him, that lit a bulb in my head that perhaps i should keep it.

i did not get those choices . . . it was either 1) give me the Star or 2) return with it when i was "ready" . . . i guess you don't get the choices at level 8.

what OTHER Shrine should i visit? the Quest seems to Stop and i am given no further direction.

Anyway, i progressed only about 2 hours past that point so i went to an earlier save . . . no biggie.

NOW, how do you use it? When i went to capture a Daedra Soul {Conjurer, i think} - even though i had a Major Black Soul Gem and the Azura Star, the Game advised i didn't have a big enough gem.

hmmm i'm not too sure, i captured many Daedras. Could be level dependent? I really didn't pay much attention to what i was capturing when it came to the Star, but when i really started using it after i put in the 25absorbhealth sigil, i could capture pretty much anything aside from humans.

what am i waiting for?

this game is SO vast and varied, you can succesfully complete it without tapping even half your skills.

i am having a BLAST - even though i am probably blundering my way thru it [compared to you real Fantasy RPGers]

You know my favourite item in the game has to be the skeleton key, unlimited usage that never breaks, and got to love the +40 security skill it adds too .

I have more or less finished the game, it is well short compared to Morrowind, yes I'm master of most guilds(thieves,fighters,brotherhood,arch-mage,arena grand champion to name a few) and have finished the main quest, done a lot of side quests plus have 4 houses full of gear.

Not a classic in my books I'm afraid to say ,especially when you remove all of the pretty graphics.I must be honest and say I had more fun with Morrowind and the Gothic games.I miss the lanterns too like you had in Morrowind, you could put them anyway in your house, great for those dark places.

The auto way marker for quests makes things too easy,I prefer to find my way to the point rather then follow the auto marker point, guess I'm an old timer when it comes to RPG games since I have been playing them since hmm 94.

Anyway I hear they are working on the patch for this game so hopefully that won't be too long a wait for you guys.

Already played it, got bored with it, and uninstalled it. Played the thief, mage, and dark brotherhood quests through to completion. Did quite a bit of the others too, but didnt finish them. Honestly, the game isnt that great imo... after a while, every advancement in the game doesnt amount to much more than "go kill dat skeleton and ill give u gold, k? thx."

Hmm... not going to say how many hours I've blown so far, it's a lot, and I blew at least 20 before I rerolled. Lvl 27 or 28 now, 1 Fighters Guild quest done, 2 Mage Guild recommendations, 2 Thieves Guild, 2 Dark Brotherhood, no main quest yet. People keep saying the main quest is short, so I'm taking my time getting to it. That's not hard for me - here's what my trip from Imperial City to Bruma was like:

Hit the road north.

See a patch of mushrooms, go pick mushrooms.

Spot a timber wolf while picking mushrooms, sneak up on it, kill it.

Now there's a new cave showing on my "radar". Gotta scope it out for later.

Found cave, but look, there's an Ayleid ruin over there. Gotta map that too.

Wait, there's a rare looking plant, I have to go pick some. But I should waste that bear first. Gotta find a good perch...

Where was I? Oh yeah, I was trying to map that new ruin. Done. Hey, there's a Daedric shrine. I should pick up that quest.

...2 hours later, I'm way up in the mountains halfway between Bruma and Cheydinhal. Wasn't I supposed to be going to see my fence?

^^ If the trip to Kvatch and elsewhere looks anything like that, it's gonna take a while

After becoming master of both the theives guild and dark brotherhood and feel there aren't enough assassin/grand heist quests. I loved untying the minotaur head and replacing medicine with poison and crap, and stealing the scroll? That was some serious fun, but now it is WAY to boring, there are like no super high value items i can steal and even if i could these crap merchants don't have the cash anyways. They need to add more evil quests like those mentioned above, stealing and killing npc idiots in imperial city gets old real fast.

This is sad. Hearing how everyone's done so much, been to so many places, yet I just made lvl 27 and half-way between Kvatch and Skingrad. Think my addiction to "see dungeon, must clear dungeon" is slowing me down. Trying to get second part of main quest started and get some fighter's guild stuff in Anvil.

Spoiler...

Think people have noticed, but what's up with the Count of Skingrad? Is there a quest related to him cause his vampirish ways are telling me to beat him into the ground... (I've tried, but he only goes unconscious.)

That means he is a VIP in the game.

1. Pay an enchanter to recharge, or

2. Recharge using filled soul gems or Varla Stones.

So I'm about 14 hours into the game and still level 1. I've already closed two Oblivion gates and seem to be a decent ways through the main quest.

Blade and speechcraft are some of my primary skills and I've leveled them up quite a bit (I'm now an Apprentice in Blade) but, for some reason, my level progress bar seems to be stuck at 100%. Is this a bug or have a I missed something about the leveling? Any help is appreciated.

EDIT:

Nevermind. I figured it out after some more googling. You have to sleep in a bed before you can level up (I just found one and jumped to level 3 by sleeping in it twice). Not sure why, but that's the way it is...

Hehe, just figured that out, but thanks. Ironically, after reading this somewhere else and loading up the game again to test it, the first loading screen I saw said "You need to find a bed and sleep in order to level up." Great... NOW you tell me.

Be careful about your choice of words. If you had been the first to reply, I would have said "I rest all the time" because I've WAITED many times. Evidently the only way to actually level up is to find a bed and sleep in it. Pretty arbitrary, if you ask me...

Thanks for the advice, though.

resting is different from waiting. you cannot rest without a bed.

Bump my question

you need to have a soul gem which contains a soul. Or you can take it to the enchanters in the Mages Guild.
