Watched a review of Nightreign mostly focusing on Solo Mode... and it sounds like it's really difficult. The bosses can be a bit more passive compared to MP but I think the movesets and even the Boss health is similar?
You got the link to this? I have zero interest in the MP part of this game and completely dismissed it after seeing gameplay of the first beta, however I'd be interested to see if single player is anything I'd enjoy. I'm guessing no since it's still rogue like, which I do enjoy in general, just something I have no desire to check out in the Elden Ring world.

I haven't even made it through half the base game let alone the first DLC content, so I'm not in any hurry to pick up another even if everyone was to say it's amazing.

I did finally figure out how spirit ashes work and holy cow does it feel broken. I think it's taken bosses that I haven't just outleveled from having to spend 10-20 attempts to learn and semi-master to being able to kill them either first or second attempt.

How much content does the Shadows expansion add roughly speaking? I'm still going through the game mostly by trying to complete everything that I find (even if most of the rewards aren't all that valuable) so I'm putting in a lot of hours. I assume anyone who plays through with a new character skips a lot of side content to unless it has a weapon, spell, item, etc. that they want and that if you're good at the game you don't need to spend hours on a boss, but I'm still having a blast exploring the world. Even going back to areas I swear I'd picked over before often turns up things I'd missed.

Also, is it worth picking up all of the older titles in the Souls series? I don't mind games that are a lot less open world, but my understanding is that that areas in those games are a lot more contained or akin to something like one of the big castle areas in Elden Ring.

I'm also fighting the temptation of starting a second character. One of the downsides of exploring everything is finding a lot of cool looking stuff that's clearly not for you. I have some items that will let me respec, but I haven't found where I'm supposed to be able to use them yet so I haven't quite pulled the trigger making a second character yet either.

RE: GTA VI

Ok, RDR2 is so engaging and fun I'm buying GTA VI on day one regardless of the price. While generally speaking, I wouldn't pay any asking price above what ER's price tag, From & Rockstar are exceptions.

In hindsight, I'd have paid $100 for RDR2. The content, writing, humor and the sheer richness of the game is worth many times that, if we're going by hours played and enjoyment. Since I've picked this game up, it's held my attention similar to ER's early days (likewise, I wish I could go back and play this game anew) where I've no interest in movies, streaming, and haven't even looked onto my Steam account.

Hard to believe it's taken me this long to play a Rockstar game. Prior to RDR2, I thought From was hands down the greatest game studio on the planet, but, after RDR2, I've got to say Rockstar is at the least their equal, and may even surpass them.

The game is just amazing! The details the devs put into this game is just mind-blowing--they're the true rockstars of the industry.

While predicting the future is always precarious at best, IMHO, GTA VI will easily sell about 50 million units over time and break a billion probably in a few days. Only question, will it be multi-platform or console exclusive?

ER's initial play though was unequivocally the single best gaming experience for me and was truly magical in every sense of the word. While RDR2 comes close, it's hard to imagine another game, past or future, that will grab a hold of me the way ER did.

After my initial blind play though, I checked out the guides and the many great content creators and discovered I had missed about 30% of the stuff! I was trying to explore meticulously, but I'm just not very good at it.

In my view, SOTE is a different game from base ER, where I suspect From felt they had to step up the difficulty, especially for the boss fights. My suggestion is doing what you're doing and take your time to enjoy the base game; try to be at least level 125 - 150 before entering the DLC. Having said that, IMHO, the two greatest and most well designed bosses in the history of gaming reside in the DLC.

I envy you for your initial play through! I'd give anything to have that initial magical experience again.

Anyways GTA V is funny how demented it can get. For example:

LOL...Rockstar definitely has a sense of humor!

As with most RDR2 fans, I set out to get the Legend of the East outfit. During some of those 90 challenges, I've had some of the most comically demented moments I've ever experienced in video games. I mean, shoot someone, anyone, with a sniper rifle 600 feet away? Knife a mounted enemy? Saw bro riding on the trail, antagonized him, and just knifed him in the head. LOL

OMG! Some of the most memorable moments and just outright comical in video game history for me.

GTA VI could get a 75 metacritic score and still make a billion dollars in three days.

Personally, I never consider metric scores or reviews. I'll take a recommendation from any of you here before I go with a metric score or "professional" reviews.

IMHO, games sell because of a huge established fan base. I suspect ER sold because millions considered it DS4 and From has a loyal fan base built over years of great games that never disappointed their core gaming market; namely, Bloodborne, Sekiro, the DS series. Not a single bad game amongst them and all true to their principles.

Likewise, GTA's fanbase, as I'm finding out, is probably even larger. Then, you add in the RDR2 fanbase and a beloved title which minted over 50 million copies. There's no question their next game will fly off the shelves, it's just a matter of how many units and if the game will meet expectations.

While personally I have no interest in Nightreign or any live service game however one dresses it up, on day one Steam count hit about 330K concurrent players. This translates to about 2 - 3 million units sold? For a lesser studio, I suspect they'd be popping champagne, but, in my view, from From's perspective, it's just par for the course. SOTE minted 5 million units sold pre-order.

However, what is true when I was a teenage gamer so many decades ago and still rings true now is you have to deliver. I'll buy the next From and Rockstar game because of my prior experience, at whatever their asking price, but if they fail, then I won't for the next one. It's that simple. You have to keep delivering--it's the free market principle and reality.

Case in point. After experiencing that Ninja Garden game using rainbow colors for blood, I will never buy another Team Ninja game unless it's recommended by a fellow gamer or have Steam's 2 hours to make sure they didn't resort to whatever drove them to make use crayon for blood.
