I thought there was a thread on Prey, but didn't find one other than someone who played a pre-release version for a bit. Game is launching this Friday, May 5th.

Anyone else looking forward to this game? It has the look of a Irrational Games title (System Shock, BioShock) with some Half-Life thrown in for good measure. Never played the original Prey, but it seems from what I've read it's an entirely different story.

There's a video from IGN of the first 11 minutes, but I don't want to watch it... I hate trailers and gameplay videos of that length that possibly spoil the experience. Usually promotional clips tend not to accurately capture how polished a game will or won't be, anyway. I normally don't buy games at full price on launch day, but I'm a fan of Bethesda's games (Fallout, The Elder Scrolls) going back to Morrowind. I think I'll brave the usual Bethesda bugs if the early reviews on launch day look good and buy it.

Seems very meh, from what I've watched (quite a lot of gameplay). The 'original' concept they had for Prey 2 back a few years ago (open alien world, chasing specific targets like a mercenary, etc) looked way, waaay more interesting at least on paper. I liked the first Prey a lot, from start to finish (well except one particular part of the game where I could only shake my head at the predictability and cheapness of it), but I'll most likely just skip this new one. Maybe one day in a few years from now I'll buy it when it gets down to $5 or $10 but even then, there's just no interest for it nor its new setting they made for it in my book. But this is just me anyway. I hope it's going to find some gamers out there who will like it, for the developers' sake if anything.

You mean this thread? From my earlier observations in above mentioned thread:-

"I played the original (2006 game) for the first time last year and enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. You start out in a bar as a Native American, get into a bar-fight and within 8 mins you're onboard a giant biological ship ("The Sphere") which really did feel alien like in nature (biological grenades, gravity pads, alien language on consoles that can be translated by pet spirit guide, portals, walking on walls, the ceiling, the general atmosphere of it, etc) and the spirit walking mechanic was pretty well done.

Does this "reboot" feel the same way, or is it all Earth bound office buildings? To me, half of what gave the original game "character" was the Native American stuff + alien environment. Also, does this continue on from "There are those who have taken notice and want to meet you" thing after you step through the portal, or is it not a sequel?"

Watching the first 11m video again plus other trailers since, honestly I still haven't changed my opinion much. It seems to be another case of creativity-starved publisher desperately digging through old IP for "new safe ideas" only for it to end up another generic FPS set in the same old office blocks, etc, that's completely lost all the "character" of the original and is trying to figure out how to claim to be Prey for franchise marketing purposes and yet claim to be "not Prey" at the same for all the differences.

As I mentioned before, it really was "Native American powers (Spirit Walking, etc) vs Aliens on their own turf in a huge semi-biologic sphere ship" that defined the original Prey. It felt a bit Doom-like, a bit Portal-like, a bit just-something-else-unusual-like, etc. Without that, it's like "remaking" Deus Ex without the conspiracies, Portal without the Portals, Thief without Garrett, System Shock without SHODAN / Alien without Ripley or the Nostromo (or even being in space...) Unless the gameplay is a lot different to "Generic FPS in an office building" in the trailers so far, I'm still not sure that they're sure what it is they're supposed to be making 11 years on...

Prey was ..

wait, we're talking that FPS where you are an indian guy, right? And its got aliens invading earth, ye?

Ok so, Prey was a visually gorgeous FPS adventure thingie that had some genuinely creepy moments and a really dark storyline, yet it had bad map design, HORRIBLE respawn mechanics which made the whole game pointless, and sort-of-bleh weapons. Nice in its own way, but nothing compared to, say FEAR. As in, not a real shooter.

What amazed me was the graphics and weird 3D map back when Oblivion was "amazing", but today no lifelike graphics will ever manage that wow feeling again. It's all about the gameplay, baby.

Preordered the new one on PC a few days ago after playing the demo on PS4... which made almost no sense by the way. I really hope it doesn't fall on its face halfway through because I was already confused.

the original game's premise makes me lol, but the sci-fi environments indeed looked great at the time. i was using a 6800GT at the time iirc

So what do you guys think so far? Now that I’m past the first 2 hours of the game—and I was already enjoying that part—I love it. I love how System-ass Shock this game can be.

Heads up: Pick up conditioning ASAP if you want to move, sneak, run faster—so helpful.

Also, I made a simple Fabricator and Recycler guide for those that are interested.

About 3-4 hours in and the game is fantastic. It's not related to the previous Prey in any shape or form, just the same name. This is akin to System Shock 2 and Bioshock 1. It provides a great sense of suspense in every second. The writer is the same as Planescape Torment and Fallout 2/New Vegas. When I found that out it was an instant buy and I haven't regretted it. Off to play more.

Downloaded and installed, only played a little to see how it runs. Looking forward to getting some hours in this weekend. I'm glad to see the System Shock 2 comparisons, because that's what I was hoping for.

Is anyone playing on Nightmare? I started with that difficulty, hoping for a challenge as long as it's not like the max DOOM difficulty (pretty challenging for me). Most other games these days are too easy even on highest difficulty.

I am also interested but will wait for the price to go down. Not paying full prices for games that are too short and too easy.

I selected hard, the one above normal. Treat combat like a puzzle and use the environment, everything. Going straight at the enemies is a good way to end up dead.

Fingers crossed for this title, i hope it turns out at least as good as the original... the original was really quite something... had real rock music in it... crazy setting.... walking upside down... alternate reality.. was awesome.

I noticed that a steam key can be legally bought for 38,94 euros.
Why is the game elsewhere almost 60 euros ? Just for the dvd case and a dvd with an installer that downloads content ?

I will ultimately get this game (probably wait until my sys rebuild in a few months) because it looks fun and System Shocky, but for those of you actually playing it, do you think the graphics are rather poor? It's probably just the art style, but everything looks so bright and flat with substandard textures that it appears to lack fidelity it could/should have (and doesn't seem like it really fits the theme either).
