Zin, you pulling for the Seahawks to win? I know you are a 49'ers fan, but I think I would be rooting for the 49'ers to win if the situation was reversed. Division pride I guess, and last season I wanted the 49'ers to win as well.
Weird eh?
I'm not a 49ers fan.
I have to explain my NFL "allegiances" all the time, which I guess makes sense. I grew up in college sports environment, so professional allegiances are really transitory, for the most part...but this is the method that works for me when it comes to the pros.
I do have a team. That team is the Redskins. I grew up in NC, and that was our team of birth. No, I do not simply pull for Carolina when they happen to show up. They are not my team and I do not abandon my team simply because a new one farts out of thin air. As for Carolina...I am "sympathetic to their cause," but I really don't give a tit about them.
After my team, allegiances go to players, for the most part, because it keeps me interested. I do this by college, primarily, and since NC State is my team--my real team, and institution, that takes precedence over all, this is what I go by.
So, here is how it works:
Skins
----
The Rams became my #2 team the day they drafted Torrey Holt (hey, so what if they won the Super Bowl that year? I was already a fan of the 3-13 team on draft day! ). I stopped caring about the Rams when Holt was done.
The Chargers are my current #2, because of Rivers--hey so what if they were perennial shit, then suddenly became good?
Then, I sympathize with teams where I've lived, particularly if they are entertaining, or at least a great environment for the game. I like the Bears, because 5 years in Chicago. It's also a great place to be a football fan.
I like the Niners, because when Harbaugh showed up (2 years after I moved here), they became a fun team to watch. No more need for me to mock them. But I pulled for them in those Singletary years if for no other reason than I was tired of being stuck with shitty football options.
Anyway, I'm a Russell Wilson fan. I was pulling for Seattle over SF the other week (...it was difficult, but I kept my composure at the bar and came away uninjured). Still, I would be happy to be pulling for SF this week, as well. I wouldn't say I'm a Seattle fan, but I've always liked some of their teams. I know some Seattle fans so I've paid more attention to them over the years that I otherwise would have. I do hate Carrol, though. I hate him to hell.
This week? 100% Russell Wilson to win the super bowl.
