I saw the crash. Her crashed head on into a wall. I thought it was pretty hard because basically the whole front end up until the windsheild was gone. He only had less than a lap to go.

There are conflicting reports, but I don't think it will be confirmed until his family is notified. I think they're trying to let the family do the notification to other family members rather than have those family members find out by TV which might be an unfortunately fruitless cause.

While it sounds horrible, great racers have tended to die this way - pushing the limits in the event that they dominated I guess the old addage that he died doing something he loved is probably the only way to make some sense of this.

The accident didn't even seem that bad to me either...

On second look (the first time I saw the accident was in slo-mo) it seemed like the first impact absorbed the brunt of the energy...I think it was a much harder impact than I first thought.

As Jmman said, I would much rather he go out like this than rotting away in some managed care with altzeimers.

Sad thing is he was blocking so his 2 teammates could take #1 &amp; #2. However it did look like Marlin nudged him on the left rear which spun him out of control.

The whole time after the crash, Daryll Waltrip knew that Earnhardts wreck was very serious. He kept saying that the head on in the wall wrecks were far worse than the flips. You know Marlin feels bad fro clipping him in the left rear causing him to shoot up the track into the wall. It will take NASCAR a long time to get over this one.

It is just so hard to believe this.

It was a nasty accident...getting plowed into from the side is bad enough at any speed, imagine what it's like at 180+ MPH
