The thing is that they are the safest cars of any major racing league. I think the biggest problem is the cars being so equal and all cluttered together. NASCAR will definitely look into some changes though.
This is a very sad day. I was watching when it happen, I didnt think the crash was that bad. I always was going for him when I watched races. He will always be remembered as one of the greatest in Nascar racing.
I cannot believe it. The earlier crash, with 18 cars, i would have thought that crash would have caused a deth, especially tony stwart, but i never would have thought earnhardt would die.
Just heard, he was dead at the race, according to CNN.
After further inspection of the crash, Dale was not touched by Sterling Marlin. He got loose and headed towards the bottom of the track, then took a sharp turn up the track into the wall. If you look at various camera angles you will see this to be accurate.
I don't know what to say. #3 was the MAN. The greatest Nascar driver ever. I used to watch with my late father when I'd visit on Sundays. He loved Earnhardt and racing. Even though I'm nowhere as big a fan as my dad was, this is almost like losing a family member.
Kind of ironic that as aggressive as Ironhead was, in the last few laps of his last race, instead of trying to bull his way up front, he was blocking the other cars so the 2 cars he owned could both have a chance to win.
The crash is much worse than simply observing it as a spectator will show.
Analyzing it scientifically shows it being much worse than the naked eye could tell. Earnhardt's car was moving laterally towards the wall, being pushed by another car. The car hit the wall in such a way that the upper-left portion of the car accepted the brunt of the impact - and there was only one impact so the release of energy couldn't be spread over multiple smaller impacts as is the case with more spectacular-looking crashes.
The crash wasn't like he was driving straight for the wall (even though the front of the car did hit the wall, the car was not moving perpendicular to the wall when it hit). But what made it really serious was that only one contact point of the car accepted the impact (upper-left corner) and the car had to accept more than it's share of potential energy being released in the impact from the other car.
This is terrible news.I no longer watch the roundy-round boys but this will be a terrible blow to racers everywhere. Somtimes the accidents that don't look particularily fatal..are. Others that look really bad leave the driver with no injuries. This is bad news indeed to all motor racing fans.
