Back to them selves of old.
2 pp goals.
Lots of hustle.
Dan play great when he had to.To bad about the one off Ouland, could've been a shutout.

The Zebra's had me worried there for awhile when they couldn't figure out who did what.

Canucks roll over Coyotes in desert

Associated Press
1/13/2004

PHOENIX (AP) - Markus Naslund scored two goals to help the Vancouver Canucks extend their road winning streak to eight games with a 4-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday night.

Ed Jovanovski and Daniel Sedin added power-play goals for the Canucks, 6-2-1 in their last nine games overall.

Phoenix goalie Brian Boucher, whose string of five consecutive shutouts ended with a first-period goal against Atlanta on Sunday, surrendered a pair goals in the first 9:54.

Todd Bertuzzi had two assists, and was the driving force on the Canucks' first two scores.

Vancouver opened the scoring at 6:42 of the first period when Bertuzzi flipped the puck toward Boucher from the side of the net. Boucher couldn't control the puck, which bounced off the ice and was batted into the net by Naslund.

Jovanovski made it 2-0 just over three minutes later when he took advantage of Bertuzzi's screen just in front of the crease to beat Boucher from the high slot.

Naslund earned an assist on Jovanoski's goal and added his team-leading 24th goal, an empty-netter with 34 seconds remaining, to raise his NHL-leading point total to 52.

Sedin scored 1:34 into the third period, one-timing a backhand pass by Jason King.

Brian Savage scored Phoenix's lone goal with 15:50 remaining. Notes: Sean Burke, the Coyotes' usual starting goalie, remained on the bench for the seventh consecutive game. ... Phoenix's Ladislav Nagy left with an eye injury after he was high-sticked by Sami Salo with 6:32 left in the second period. No penalty was called on the play.

Teams inquire about Zhamnov

TSN.ca Staff
1/14/2004

Chicago Blackhawks general manager Bob Pulford says NHL teams are calling to inquire about the availability of forward Alex Zhamnov.

Pulford says he hasn't received any specific offers adding that the Blackhawks haven't decided whether or not to trade Zhamnov or sign him to a contract extension.

The Detroit Red Wings, New Jersey Devils, Vancouver Canucks and San Jose Sharks have been mentioned as potential suitors.

Zhamnov, who will earn $4.5-million this season, can become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Pulford would like to have the situation resolved by the March trade deadline rather than risk losing him for nothing.

However, a source who has spoken to Zhamnov tells the Chicago Tribune he is "frustrated" playing under coach Brian Sutter and is unsure about returning to Chicago if Sutter is retained.

Sutter is in the final year of a three year contract with Chicago and while team owner Bill Wirtz indicated he would be the head coach as long as he owned the team, there's been no talk of an extension to date.

I think it's a bad idea.

First .......... who do we trade for him? Sedins? Arvedson? Chubarov? Sopel?

Second.......... It's all good until he gets injured........... which he does a lot.

Not the Sedins. Arvedson, Chubarov, Sopel, Ruutuu, and some others could go though. Of course that would depend on who Chicago would be interested in.

I don't think they could get much since Zhamnov is a free agent next year. Maybe he will be a playoff rent-a-player.

Canucks look to stretch road streak

Sports Ticker
1/15/2004

SAN JOSE, California (Ticker) -- The Vancouver Canucks can stretch their team-record road winning streak to nine games Thursday night as they face the San Jose Sharks in a matchup of division leaders.

Vancouver, which previously had never more than five in a row on the road, has not lost away from General Motors Place since a 3-1 setback at Dallas on December 17.

The Canucks' last three road wins have come against teams from the Pacific Division, including Tuesday's 4-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes, which raised their road record to 14-6-2-2. The Canucks are two points in front of the Colorado Avalanche for the lead in the Northwest Division.

Captain Markus Naslund, who has scored 13 of his team-leading 24 goals on the road, tallied twice and added an assist.

Vancouver's road skein comes at a time when it has struggled at GM Place, going 0-3-2 in its last five games.

"For whatever reason, we have been keeping things simple on the road and we are not afraid to make mistakes," Vancouver goaltender Dan Cloutier said Tuesday. "At home, we try to do a little much sometimes. We have had a lot of success on the road and it is nice to see we are still climbing up."

While Vancouver has excelled on the road, the Sharks have been solid at home. Before Tuesday's 3-0 loss to Dallas, they had gained a point in 14 straight home contests, going 8-0-4-2.

In their first regulation home loss in over two months, the Sharks went 0-for-4 on the power play and managed just 17 shots on goalie Marty Turco.

San Jose has not had back-to-back regulation losses since October 18 and 21 and has a five-point lead over Dallas, Phoenix and Los Angeles atop the Pacific.

Vancouver leads the all-time series, 32-22-9. The Sharks, however, have won seven of the last nine meetings in the series and extended their winning streak over the Canucks to three games as Patrick Marleau scored with 39 seconds remaining in a 2-1 victory at GM Place on January 5.
