Hey......this is "Mrs. Loggerman,"

Just so you all know....I'm NOT as bad as Loggerman makes it sound when it comes to hockey. The reason I and our boys don't enjoy watching the game with him is cause he turns it up so loud I'm sure you guys in Vancouver can hear it. Then he'll sit on the couch, swearing and talking to the tv like the Cannucks can really hear him.
We acually do enjoy watching the game and when he goes out, like you Seally, we'll watch the game and quite enjoy it.
One day I hope to see a live game and not one on tv.

Maybe I'll feed him lots of turkey the next time they play so he'll sleep peacefully on the couch and the boys and I will enjoy a game.

Ducks edge Canucks for first win of 2004

Canadian Press
1/18/2004

VANCOUVER (CP) - Vaclav Prospal ended two unflattering streaks with a single goal on Saturday.

His second-period game-winner, which gave the Anaheim Mighty Ducks a 2-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks, not only was his first goal in 18 contests but it also halted his team's winless skid at eight games (0-5-3).

``This is something we really need,'' said Prospal, who has seven goals this season. ``We don't really gave too many hot guys on this team right now so whoever can score a goal it's a huge plus.''

Todd Simpson, who Prospal says is really the only guy scoring right now for the struggling Ducks, picked up his fourth goal in six games.

Henrik Sedin scored the lone goal for the Canucks (25-13-7-2), and Dan Cloutier made 29 saves.

Mighty Ducks goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere, winless in his previous five starts, made 24 saves.

Prospal, who signed a five-year, $16.5-million US deal with the Ducks last summer after a career-best 22 goals and 79 points win Tampa Bay, has just 22 points this season and hadn't scored since Dec. 7.

His coach, Mike Babcock, said Saturday's performance is a sign of things to come.

``He's been snake-bitten around the net but we've been talking about him having the ability to break loose,'' he said. ``I think you're going to see Vinny take off.''

Daniel Sedin had a chance to play hero but missed a penalty shot late in the second period that could have tied the game. Vancouver, which recently won eight straight on the road, has now gone 14 games on home ice without a win in regulation time, although they have won four times in overtime (4-6-4-0).

The team's power play also continued to struggle, failing to even get a shot on goal in three chances. Despite all the Canucks fire-power, their power play sat 19th in the NHL going into the game.

``In tight games like these, that's the difference,'' said captain Markus Naslund. ``I don't have the answer for it right now but I'm still positive and I think it's going to happen. We have too much talent for it not to.

``But it has to get going soon because other teams are winning games because of power plays.''

Anaheim also was scoreless in three man-advantage opportunities. The Ducks outshot Vancouver 31-25 overall.

The Canucks were outworked through most of the opening period, but still went into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead thanks to a highlight-reel goal by Sedin.

The centre went end-to-end, first skating the puck around his own net then charging through the neutral zone, where he managed to avoid a check along the boards. Sedin gained the Anaheim zone, feathered the puck between the legs of defender Niclas Havelid, picked it up again and slid a backhand around Giguere.

``I got the puck down in our own end and I didn't really have anyone to beat until the end,'' said Henrik. ``I got a good pick in the neutral zone and it helped me a lot.''

The lead only lasted until 2:16 into the second period, as Anaheim showed why it's always a good idea to put the puck on the net. Simpson pinched in from the point to scoop up a loose puck and fired a sharp-angle shot from the far corner that somehow found a hole between Cloutier's pads and the post and went into the net.

``I just sort of threw it at the net, why not?'' said Simpson. ``Luckily it bounced off his leg and went into the net. I'm not used to scoring so much but I'm getting the breaks. Hopefully it will continue.''

Prospal gave his team the lead at 10:04 of the second when he one-timed a pass from Joffrey Lupul past Cloutier, who couldn't get to the other side of the net in time to make the save.

``Instead of dumping the puck in the corner, Rucchin just slid the puck in the middle and Lupul was there driving the net and he just played it under the defenceman's stick to my side,'' said Prospal. ``Basically the goalie was facing Lupul so there was a lot of room to shoot at.''

Daniel Sedin was awarded a penalty shot after getting hauled down by Vitaly Vishnevski while on a 2-on-0 breakaway with Ed Jovanovski. He went in on goal, faked once then tried to slide a backhand around Giguere, but the Anaheim goaltender stayed with him all the way and got his left pad down to make the save.

``He's a very skilled player and he's very patient,'' said Giguere. ``He held on to the puck at the last second. I didn't want to give him anything to shoot at, I wanted him to deke. I thought he made a great move but I had good momentum and I was able to cover the bottom of the net.''

Notes: Earlier on Saturday, the Canucks traded defenceman Jiri Slegr to the Boston Bruins for future considerations and recalled forward Ryan Kesler, who started the game . . . Vancouver centre Artem Chubarov missed his second-straight game with a groin injury . . . This is the first Vancouver homestand in more than a month to last longer than a single game. The team will play the next four at home before going back on the road.

Canucks recall Hedberg, demote Auld

Canadian Press
1/18/2004

VANCOUVER (CP) - Goaltender Johan Hedberg was recalled by the Canucks from their AHL affiliate in Winnipeg on Sunday.

Hedberg, out of the NHL since breaking a wrist Dec. 9, allowed nine goals and made 68 saves in two Manitoba Moose losses during the weekend to end his conditioning stint in the AHL.

Alex Auld, who had been backup up Dan Cloutier in Vancouver, returns to the Moose.

Canucks's home winless skid reaches 7

Canadian Press
1/20/2004

VANCOUVER (CP) - David Oliver's first NHL goal in four years stood up to beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 on Monday but the celebration will have to wait.

Oliver was taken to hospital soon after he gave the Dallas Stars a two-goal lead in the second period when he suffered a throat injury on the play.

``It happened in the pile just before he scored or just after he scored,'' said Dallas coach Dave Tippett who did not know what caused the injury or its details. ``He came to the bench and he left the bench right away.

``At first I thought he hurt his back. He left the bench, got in the dressing room and was having trouble breathing so we took him to hospital.''

Tippett said Oliver was being examined to see if he was fit to fly to the Alberta capital for a game Tuesday night.

``They didn't think it was serious to start with,'' said Tippett, whose club is climbing up the Western Conference standings after underachieving earlier this season.

Oliver, 32, was born in Sechelt, B.C., and broke in with the Edmonton Oilers after being drafted 144th overall in 1991. He went to the net to bang Richard Matvichuk's rebound behind Vancouver goalie Dan Cloutier for his first NHL goal since Dec. 11, 1999. He played just 27 NHL games during that span.

Jason Arnott, who played with Oliver in Edmonton when Oliver finished fourth in Calder Trophy voting in 1994-95, also assisted on the winner which came with 12 seconds remaining in a Dallas power play.

Pierre Turgeon ended a 10-game goal drought to open the scoring and Bill Guerin, with his team-leading 21st of the season, also scored for Dallas.

Trevor Linden (17 games) and Brendan Morrison (12 games) ended personal scoring slumps for the Canucks, who have lost three straight for the first time this season as their home-ice jinx continued.

``We need an old-fashioned game where we kind of commit to one another and we just battle it out,'' Linden said. ``If we have to win it on the last shot of the game 1-0 that's kind of the way it's got to be.

``We think we can skill our way to winning games but sometimes it's just not there.''

Vancouver (25-14-7-2) is 0-5-2 in the last seven games at home and are winless in regulation time at GM Place for more than two months. They are 4-7-4-0 during that stretch, with all the wins coming in overtime.

``It's not that we feel we can't win at home,'' said Canucks captain Markus Naslund. ``We won at home all last year, we had a great start this year. Right now we're not playing our best hockey.

``You've got to simplify it and put on the work boots.''

The Stars (21-19-8-0) won their second in a row and third of a five-game road trip. They are 6-1-2 in their last nine road games and remained unbeaten in 55 games after taking a lead into the third period.<

They Canucks appeared to be waiting for their talent to take over as they were listless early in the game when the Stars scored twice on five shots.

Goalie Dan Cloutier also had to make key saves on four one-timers to keep the game close.

Mike Modano, who recently returned to the Stars' lineup after suffering a groin injury, said his club has given up on finesse, unlike the Canucks.

``We've really had to fight for all we've got lately,'' Modano said. ``Nothing has come easily all season long and we've learned to accept that we have to play a full 60 minutes to get points.

``I think it's finally starting to settle in our brain that's how we've got to play.''

Turgeon, whose deflection 4:38 after the puck dropped was his first goal in 10 games and only the fourth of the season said the Dallas turnaround came after a team meeting a month and a half ago.

``We talked about winning the battles along the boards ... all of a sudden, when you win the battle in the offensive zone, you get some scoring chances,'' he said. ``We still have a lot of work ahead of us so it won't get easier. It will just get harder.''

Notes: The Canucks began the season undefeated in their first 10 home games (9-0-1) ... this was Vancouver's 14th game in 25 nights and the first time they've played consecutive games at home during that stretch ... Dallas winger Scott Young was out with back spasms and is listed day to day ... Canuck centre Artem Chubarov missed his third straight game with soreness in his groin area ... winger Magnus Arvedson (back) is likely a week away from returning to the Canuck lineup and centre Matt Cooke (knee sprain) isn't expected to resume skating for a week.

Canucks try to end home woes against Tampa

The Sports Network
1/21/2004

The Vancouver Canucks have history on their side as they try to end their longest home winless streak in four years.

The Canucks look to snap a seven-game winless skid at GM Place when they meet a Tampa Bay Lightning team that hasn't registered a victory in any of its eight visits to Vancouver.

The Canucks have been one of the most dominant road teams in the NHL this season, with a league-leading 14 wins away from home.

The Canucks returned to GM Place to begin a season high-tying, five-game homestand Saturday, but fell 2-1 to the lowly Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

Vancouver then lost 3-2 to the Dallas Stars on Monday to drop to 0-5-2 in its last seven games on home ice. The Canucks haven't won at home since beating the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 in overtime Dec. 14.

Vancouver hasn't gone without a victory in eight straight games at home since an 0-3-2-3 stretch from Dec. 26, 1999-Jan. 25, 2000.

The Canucks have lost three straight overall for the first time since early March 2002, and have fallen out of the top spot in the Northwest Division for the first time since October. Vancouver is two points behind the Colorado Avalanche.

"We're not playing our best hockey, it's as simple as that," Canucks captain Markus Naslund said. "We have to simplify, we have to put on our work boots and go out and work hard and good things will happen."

Tampa Bay has lost two in a row since a five-game winning streak. The Lightning fell 5-4 in overtime to Colorado on Monday, and will now be trying to end their skid in Vancouver, where they've been outscored 35-13 in going 0-6-2.

Tampa Bay took a 4-3 lead into the third period, but allowed the tying goal by Milan Hejduk at 13:41. Hejduk then beat the Lightning with a penalty shot 59 seconds into overtime after getting tripped from behind by defenseman Brad Lukowich.

"I do feel better because we got a point," Tampa Bay leading scorer Martin St. Louis said. "But I'm disappointed the way we're playing late in the third period."
