This may mean that some trade action will be happening because certainly Bert is going to be out for some games.

psht 2 games?
that should be more like Marty Mcsolay(sp) who hit the guy in the head with the stick and was suspended for something like the rest of the season........

That was with a stick dude......... that was intent to injure. Bert was trying to get into a fight and they fell down........... nothing like an intentional stick swing.

He will get a minimum 2 but I bet 5. A sad daty though.

Aquaman

Bertuzzi was not trying to get into a fight. Moore was skating away from several Canucks, avoiding a fight, so Bertuzzi drops his stick, clocks Moore in the head, and then (seemingly) smashes his head into the ice. That was not "trying to get into fight".

WHatever dude

Cheers,
Aquaman

you are delusional if you think that that was "trying to start a fight".......if you rember that video (a while back)of the russian or polish guy just getting beat by a bunch of other guys.....i bet you would call that a fight......

Bertuzzi was skating behind him down the ice, talking to him, pushing him some, he grabbed his jersey and talked some more. That was trying to get him to fight. When Moore didn't want to go, Bertuzzi hit him.

So yes he was trying to start a fight.

stop arguing symantix

i would not call that a fight.....if i was walking down the street and started taunting someone and then kicked them in the back of the head i wouldn't call that a fight.......

You really make me want to puke. Bertuzzi challenged Moore. Moore skated away. Bertuzzi attacked Moore. That is not trying to get into a fight, that's hockey at its absolute worst you idiot.

You go watch the McSorley incident and tell me it wasn't VERY similar.

Watch the 10 seconds before the incident. Bertuzzi was clearly trying to get him to fight.

Yeah, he did. Then Moore skated away. That, at least traditionally, means the challenged player is refusing to fight, and the matter should have been dropped.

So Bertuzzi was trying to get into a fight... With McSorley there was none of that. Brashear would have fought him if McSorley had challenged him. McSorley just up and hit him over the head with his stick. So it's worse on 2 fronts: He used a weapon, and he didn't give Brashear a challenge.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not making excuses for Bertuzzi or trying to play down what he did, but the McSorely incident was different and worse.

If you want my opinion, I would have been dissapointed but ok if Moore got his rear-end handed to him in a legitimate fight. He did not accept any of the challenges, so the matter should have been dropped. Instead, Bertuzzi showed his true colors and things went right to hell. That's what gets me very angry.

Hey......... I'm not saying Bert was wrong......... it's just not the same as McSorely (in my opinion) because

1. He was trying to get into a fight (although, not successufl) and I agree he should have backed off but he had a brain fart.

2. McSorely was an intentional intent to injure

There is a difference in trying to get into a fight and intentionally trying to injure someone.

I think Bert wanted to pummle Moore but I don't think he wanted to "intentionally" drive his head into the ice.

What's sad is the Canucks and their fans are going to get backlash for something one guy did... The Canucks are still a good group of guys, and the fans haven't changed.

Well obviously that wasn't a fight. Bertuzzi was trying to get in a fight, and when that didn't work, he pretty much cheap shotted Moore and took him down.

At least that's how I saw it.

You need to remember Brad May's "bounty" before you completely dismiss any intent to injure.

i don't see it that way.... both were hitting someone who didn't want to fight ......both were attacks on someone who wasn't expecting it (of course you could say the avalanche player expected it but he really couldn't do anything about it)

I gotta agree that May's "bounty" was stupid and uncalled for. That just made him look like an idiot.

Do you guys think Moore really deserved all this? Maybe the situation was way overblown *shrugs*

Well, it's obvious we're going to disagree about if it was intentional or not. How about we agree on the following:
1) That was an absolutely terrible and vicious hit by Bertuzzi. It was hockey at its worst and it should never be repeated.
2) He should be punished, at the absolute least by the NHL, appropriately.

Sound good to you?

It is definitely different. Bertuzzi punched him to get back at him. He just wanted to "get him" and not purposely put him out. McSorley was a pure intent to injure with a stick.

Why does it matter that bertuzzi was trying to get in to a fight with moore? The important thing here is that Moore walked away from it, and when you do that, the challenger have to back off. He instead pummeled him in the back, which is a pretty cheap shot. It doesn't matter if the ice did the damage, cause it was Bertuzzis action that initiated it, just like how some players don't mean to high stick, but it happened anyway and they get punished for it.

If you think bert only should get 2 games for this, man your waay off. Domi got 8 games for elbowing niedermayer and was the right call. If you think 2 is enough, man... you have to take off your homer hat for now.

Yeah........ your right........... when I said that I a bit pissed at the time. Now that I have had a chance to cool down a bit I think he will get 8-10 games....... not more then the season (13 games left)

As for Domi........ he got that 8 games not only for hte hit but for his reputation I think.

The way I heard it, May made that comment as a joke because it was what the media wanted to hear. May is a good guy. Actually, I was really impressed with his play tonight. He had energy, even when it was 5-0. It would have just gone as a joke, but now it's being blown up to be bigger than it really was.

Dumb luck I guess. The media love stories like this. But half the time, its just steam. I guess this will give them something to chew on till the trade deadline is over.... speaking of which... I'll be up at 9 to check out all the trades unfold. woot!
