USA loses. Team USA is really pathetic. They're not playing w/ a lot of heart it seems. Maybe they're just playing it safe, or not even trying. But why? this is playing for the nation of fans, not just a city of fans.

As for Korea, well, I was rooting for Korea mainly because well, I'm korean, and team USA's poor play in the WBC is really pathetic, and a pain to watch.

Props to Korea, and  to the USA team.

that's no excuse. The talent is still there for Team USA. Of course the best aren't playing, but you can't deny that USA, position-per-position, has the best talent in the WBC.

<-- hehe, sorry, just a bit upset that USA is playing at such a subpar level. Or maybe, the other nationals teams just are that good. donno, heh.

If Team USA still plays like this, I want Japan and Korea to advance. USA doesn't even deserve to advance.

sadly, no one cares. I felt a whiffle of sadness that team USA is playing so crappily, but then life went on. At least there's Korea... and I would've liked to have seen a Japan v Korea match... that would've been interesting, to say the least

Why the hell did Teixeira and Holliday play?! Buck Martinez is an idiot!!!! He wants everything to play a fair share so he rests DLee and Michael Young after they did so well against Japan. I'm surprised that he didn't sit Griffey because of his hot hitting.

I mean, Korea lit up Willis and they don't even have that great of an offense. Argh

But a lot of them are as well. Best American Players at the Positions. 1B - Derek Lee (2nd best Mark Teixeira). 2B - Chase Utley (you can argue Jeff Kent is better although Utley put up better #'s). SS - Jeter (Michael Young has better stats than Jeter) 3B - Arod (2nd best Morgan Ensberg isn't playing but Chipper Jones is potentially a HOF).
OF - No real standouts but there isn't top-tier players here anyways (Gary Sheffield, Barry Bonds (steroids)). Johnny Damon (best leadoff man maybe besides Ichiro), Holliday (put up decent #'s), Griffey (bounceback year, potential HOF), Wells & Winn (mediocre), Francoeur (young guy doesn't play much for the US team).

Pitching- Roger Clemens, Jake Peavy, & Dontrelle Willis put up great #'s. They dont have Chris Carpenter/Roy Oswalt/Randy Johnson (down year) but those 3 arguably are top5 pitchers. The bullpen is sick: Chad Cordero, Brian Fuentes, Todd Jones, Brad Lidge, Joe Nathan, Jake Peavy, Huston Street. All guys who put up great #'s and a lot of saves. Scot Shields, Mike Timlin, Gary Majewski are solid setup guys. Only guy I would want is probably Billy Wagner.

Overall team is stacked, OF is weak but there aren't too many great american OF's.

Damn the US team sucks! Who would have thought that they'd get owned with all the players that they have.

think about it this way...how many players from the Korean team would actually make it in the major league with the best players in the world. maybe only a few. how many top notch major league players do the US have on their team?

Even if Mexico loses, there will still be a Japan vs. Korea match. Remember, Puerto Rico and Cuba both advanced to the next round before their matchup and they still played each other.

There is going to be tension at the Japan vs. Korea game! Korea beat Japan in the first round after so much trash talk by the Japanese team. I don't think Japan will lose the next time.

actually, korea wins a surprising number of sporting events when the two countries go head to head. it's obvious that korea has a inferiority complex and some resentment of what japan has done to korea in the past.

both serve as motivating factors that the japanese seem to lack.

I was speaking specifically about baseball. I don't know the record behind the history of their matchups but I was told that in baseball, Japan has always dominated Korea. It doesn't surprise me since baseball is much bigger in Japan than in Korea.

baseball is pretty big in korea. i wouldn't say baseball is bigger in japan than korea, only to the extent that the japanese population is 3 times that of korea. baseball is probably the 2nd most popular sport in korea after soccer.
