What was weird was how the commentator said all the Japaneseplayers' names correctly, except for maybe Toshiko Mae (he pronounced it like the month May...)...

As for Korean, I don't think so (except for the American pronunciation, probably).

This bracket thing is screwed up. Korea beats Japan twice, beats them both, and have to play them again, loses once and is eliminated. Total BS.

Thats not the BS part, its the way the Semifinal is set up that is BS. Korea shoulda played Cuba and Japan the D.R. and then whoever wins goes to the Final.

If Korea beat Japan twice, beats Cuba and Japan beats D.R. and Japan beats Korea in the final then Japan is the winner and thats life. No BS there.

heh i was @ the game. Just got back, actually lol.

I'm not upset that Korea lost (was rooting for Korea), since I didn't even expect them to get this far. A ton of fans dropped down to the lower lvls and rooted even after the game ended. It was a good run, heh.

The fans just kept on rooting 'till the end, didn't care if the team they rooted for got routed, heh

japanese is the easiest language to pronounce for non-native speakers

wow, I feel so sorry for Korea
They've played so well till today, lose one game, and they are out...

They beat Japan twice, and lose the game that really counts.
if Japan wins WBC, the bragging right goes back to Japan, two win by Korea are meaningless...
Japan shouldn't even be here, USA should've beaten Mexico and US beatting Korea, advancing to final.
I'd rather have Korea loose to USA than Japan.

it's because japanese language has very very few closed syllables. it's a unique language. thats one of the reasons why japanese murder english, "batuh" instead of just bat etc.

ironically, koreans learn their english from japanese pronunciation guides and make many of the same mistakes. the reason it is ironic is, korean language uses closed syllables extensively and many of the words such as "bat" has a very similar korean character that is a 1 syllable closed syllable word.

anyway, rant about nothing.

heh..I think Jon Miller does the best he can though. He's one of the very few baseball announcers to pronounce latino names correctly so I'm sure Japanese and Korean names are a challenge to him. Joe Morgan butchers lots of names (asian, spanish..or otherwise). Gary Thorne mangles names as well (he did all the games from Puerto Rico..he just totally butchered names)..so I give Miller credit for actually trying hard.

That's what I was alluding to. Korea should have played Cuba.

God, what the hell is this NIT crap. I don't want to see 2nd rated teams that can't make the real tournament.

The MLB Shopzone is the only place online that has the stuff (at least that I know of). They don't seem to have the Japan jersey's though..only the batting practice ones.

WBC stuff at MLB shop

I'm gonna pick up a Puerto Rico one for my dad.

hmm, just got back from the Final game. Cuba doesn't know when to quit! hehehe. Congrats to Japan on the win. Although I didn't agree w/ the bracket system, ah well, the games were all very entertaining, so I can't complain.

Tonight's game didn't seem professional, however. Cuba gave up too many walks, 3 runs from walks wtf. Too many errors. Not something you'd really expect from a championship game, and makes you wonder how the teams got this far. But well, they did within the rules of the WBC, and played their hearts out.

The crowd was just awesome, and PACKED.

Just glad that I got to be among the 40K people to attend the Semi's and Final of the first WBC. Not sure if it's something to tell my grandkids about, hah. well maybe I guess. I still have both ticket stubs.

I never had so much fun watching baseball these last couple of weeks. I was always a baseball fan, but now i'm a rabid fan. ...How 3 weeks can change a casual fan...

I rooted for my native country of Korea, and they gave me something to cheer about for a long time to come. The defensively display shown in a lot of these games should be the new standard for all players who want to play at such a level. The WBC was a clinic for defense, and batting discipline.

I was a bit upset that USA played poorly, but that just means the world has caught up, well, not the world, but you know, just the few prominent countries.

Like I said before, for the next 20 or so years, it's going to be Dominican Rep, Cuba, USA, Mexico, Japan, and Korea that's going to most likely dominate this tourney every three years. Whoever gets the title will do it with luck, consistency, and more luck etc; since it seems that any of these teams can beat each other on any given night.

I can't wait 'till the next WBC!
