Why do people always talk about USA like it's going somewhere. USA is not a soccer nation. It buys it's players from other countries. USA will never come close to winning the cup!

Lay off the pipe, believe it or not, US players are being recruited for European Teams. The US isn't buying anyone from anywhere. Donovan, Beasely, Tim Howard, etc. are the new face of US Soccer. I remember when Tim used to play for the Metrostars. Too bad Man U. signed him. I stopped watching after he left

They are becoming a more powerful footballing force each year, so it would be foolish to say they will never win the World Cup. It probably won't happen in the next 2 or 3 tournaments but they will get closer and closer

Czech and Italy will walk over US. Czech Republic is my favorite Winning Eleven team.

Well that obviously has a correlation in reality. Hard to argue with the "they're gonna win because I like them in a video game" reasoning.

The reality is that it will be a long haul. The large US population and the popularity of soccer at the youth level is a good thing for the development of the game. Unfortunately, there is no high level soccer on the television and coaching is pretty dreadful. With no elite soccer to watch, no glory to attain and very little quality coaching, it will not happen anytime soon.

absolutely - long term the US will be successful. If they happen to exceed expectations this time around then that should help generate interest.

He's in awesome form at the moment - the goal he scored at the weekend is better than any on that video
I am desperately looking for a link to it...

edit: Is it really a better goal than the half-volley reverse bender accross the entire penalty box into the far side upper deck @ 1:22 into the video?

If so, EGADS! :Q

Nice goal!

Similar build up to Rooney's goal vs. Newcastle (crossing advance headed back to charging follower and POW!)

 he'd also been suffering with cramp a few minutes before that goal so it was an amazing end to normal time

Hopefully the Americans don?t try to score a touch down in the world cup

Anyway Tim Howard is a good Goal Keeper, but excuse me whilst I just LMAO, he is no way near the best goal keeper in the world that would be Gianluigi Buffon (to who ever said that).

I must say it is a but worrying, im fine with the midfield and defence, but up front we have Theo Walcott who doesn?t even shave yet and that giraffe Peter Crouch.

Patience - Rooney may just make it (got my fingers crossed for his scan on May 25th) and Owen is apparently looking good in training. I can't understand why he didn't take another striker though. I'm biased but Defoe would have been a good choice

Darren Bent? I'm not sure he's international class to be honest although it would have been nice to see him get more of a chance this season

Friedel isn't on the squad either. It's Keller, Howard and Hahnemann.

I think Brazil is going to be fun to watch is the favorite for obvious reasons. Italy can practically field a squad that has been playing together for ages on the club level with Pirlo, Gattuso, Gilardino and Inzaghi on the roster. That's a good chunk of AC Milan's midfield and forwards right there.

I'm rooting for the US naturally, and I like to see as good a showing as we had in '02. It's a tougher road for sure, and probably impossible with Brazil in our path, but if you want to be the best and all that...

Just imagine if our best athletes were all playing soccer.
