As a football newb, I'm wondering who are some of the top players in the world.

I've heard that these guys are pretty good: Henry, Ronaldinho, Rooney, Michael Owen. Also what about David Beckham? I know he is one of the most popular players in the world, but how good is he now? How good was he at his peak?

Those are all great players. Owen does not belong in that group, as he is not one of the top 5 players in the world at his position, but he is also very very good. Beckham right now is still one of the best wingers in the game. He has lost a step, but his crossing skill and shiftiness and work rate out there on the right flank are still excellent. In his prime, Beckham was the best right winger as well as the best spot kicker in the world. There are some younger talents that are now considered more valuable, but he is still a great player (although somewhat over-rated by his popularity).

I hate companies that do that.

I think only two games today, Germany won 4-2 over Costa Rica, and Ecudaor is on their way to beat Poland 2-0.
