It was only supposed to last the week of E3. My downloads were definitely faster last night so I think all the Silver people are gone.

Good news
Retail sources in the UK have told GamesIndustry.biz that Microsoft has intimated to them that the HD-DVD add-on for the Xbox 360 will be priced such that console and peripheral combined are cheaper than Sony's PS3.

At E3 last week, Microsoft once again discussed its plans to launch a HD-DVD component for the Xbox 360 later this year, but did not reveal any further information regarding the pricing of the unit.

Currently, the Xbox 360 retails at GBP 279 in the UK, with the Core System version selling for GBP 209, while the 60GB model of the PlayStation 3 is expected to cost between GBP 399 and GBP 419 when it arrives in late November.

Microsoft's alleged comments to UK retailers seem to suggest that the HD-DVD peripheral, which allows playback of high definition movies using Toshiba's next-generation DVD standard, will be priced below GBP 130, making an Xbox 360 and HD-DVD player bundle into a potentially attractive option at Christmas.

Sony's PlayStation 3 features a built-in Blu-Ray drive, which also offers playback of high definition movies, but in this case using Sony's competing next-generation DVD standard - which many industry commentators are tipping as the likely winner of this standards war, due to strong support from many movie studios and other content creators.

Some analysts, including respected videogames industry analyst Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities, have suggested that the success or failure of Blu-Ray could directly lead to the success or failure of the PlayStation 3 - with the system being seen as good value despite its high price point if Blu-Ray is widely adopted, but Sony faced with being lumbered with an expensive and unappealing component for the console's five year lifespan if Blu-Ray is a failure.

Sorry, just couldn't resist this one when I saw it:

Sony throws party for Vaios, fakes Blu-ray demo

Sony throws party for Vaios, fakes Blu-ray demo

Who'd you think you were fooling, Sony? You go throw some big huge party celebrating the 10 year birthday of the Vaio and the launch of the Vaio UX Micro PC and your new flagship Blu-ray playing AR series 17-inch powerhouse laptop, replete with demo of early Blu-ray title House of Flying Daggers. And then you get done caught red-handed by a meddling reporter who discovered the Blu-ray playback is actually coming straight off a typical, normal old DVD+R. It's a sham, Sony, the whole thing's a sham! How are you gonna make a case for your laptop -- let alone Blu-ray as a format -- now that you tried to pawn off a DVD as a Blu-ray tech demo to a room full of industry professionals? We hope at least it was playing back a high def trailer, or something; now go to your room, you're gonna have some serious alone time, little mister.

Ah, now this is a classic.

It was only supposed to last the week of E3. My downloads were definitely faster last night so I think all the Silver people are gone.

So I'm confused. Did I get gold membership for a month for free when i got my system? How can I be playing Halo 2 right now online?

Actually, I believe each new 360 owner does get 1 free month of gold if I recall correctly.

Okay, just making sure. Most likely going to renew for a year once my one month is over.

Has anyone gotten their Xbox Live Diamond cards yet? I got mine over the weekend, but I haven't had a chance to look into any of the discounts. Any good discounts, or do they all suck?

I think the best coupon going right now is Buy one get one free at Quiznos. You have to go to the xbox diamond card website and print the coupon though.

I also just got my diamond card, and there's actually a lot of good discounts. One of them's for Dave & Buster's - $10 of gameplay free with the purchase of $20. The Hollywood Video one is also pretty slick (2 for 1). My wife saw a few other good ones, too.

Miscellaneous fact: you can keep your mech in the Lost Planet demo (part 1) all the way up to the final boss. I thought you _had_ to grapple up the cliff, but it turns out that some creative jumps using the boosters will get you up there just fine. Makes running through the cave a lot faster!

Live Stats for the free week of E3
Xbox Live Marketplace surpasses 24 million downloads as Xbox Live Brings E3 Home to gamers around the world

Xbox Live becomes the world?s largest platform for high-definition on-demand content

Xbox Live, the first and only unified online games and entertainment network, is now the world?s largest platform for high-definition on-demand content, surpassing 24 million downloads following the launch of Xbox 360 on November 22, 2005.

For the full week of E3 ? the biggest video game industry event of the year - Xbox 360 gamers around the world were invited to jump in to Xbox Live through ?E3: Bringing It Home,? and receive a full week?s Gold membership for free, courtesy of Verizon in the US and adidas in Europe.

Over 1.5 million gamers connected to Xbox Live last week, downloading exclusive content direct from the show floor, including the latest high-definition game demos and trailers, such as Halo 3, Gears of War and Fable 2; game add-on content, such as Map Packs from Call of Duty ®2 and additional quests from The Elder Scrolls® IV: Oblivion?, movie trailers and music videos, such as ?Nacho Libre? and ?Over My Head? (The Fray) along with celebrity Game with Fame multiplayer sessions with Dave Navarro (Panic Channel), Method Man and Jenny McCarthy.

Xbox Live members downloaded over 5 million pieces of gaming and entertainment content during the 7 days of E3: Bringing It Home, consuming more than 600 Terabytes of data, shattering all previous records for the network. At the same time, traffic on Xbox.com doubled during the week, driving more than 6 million unique users to the site as well.

?Only Xbox Live could bring E3 home in high definition for consumers around the world,? said Peter Moore, corporate vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business in the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. ?The sheer volume of downloads during E3 week was simply staggering. To put it in perspective, all the printed material in the U.S. Library of Congress is estimated to be about 20 terabytes, and Xbox Live delivered 30 times that amount in just 7 days. While others talk about online entertainment in the console space, we are delivering it in glorious high-definition to the millions of members we have across 24 countries. ?

The eagerly anticipated Halo 3 high-definition trailer proved to be the most popular download of the week:

Top 10 downloads during E3: Bringing It Home:

1. Halo 3 Game Trailer (Microsoft Game Studios)
2. Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Free Playable Demo (Capcom)
3. Test Drive® Unlimited Free Playable Demo (Atari)
4. MotoGP? '06 Free Playable Demo (THQ)
5. X-Men?: The Last Stand Pack (20th Century Fox)
6. Gears of War GameTrailer (Microsoft Game Studios)

No good from what I hear, TXB gave it a 5 I believe. Waiting for Hitman, Rockstar's table tennis actually looks pretty cool as well, especially at $40.

"Best Console Multiplayer Game - Gears of War

Of all the console demos and movies we absorbed over the past few weeks, nothing really came close to the multiplayer experience delivered by Gears of War. Microsoft had a special room set up in its booth with multiple Xbox 360 stations prepped for four-on-four deathmatches. Part of the reason we're awarding this to GoW is because of how simple and fun the multiplayer is. From the moment we had joypads thrust into our mitts, we were all hooked.

The sheer brutality of Gears of War makes it instantly appealing. It's violence, fast pace and stunning visuals all work together to enhance the deathmatch experience. Heavy use of context-sensitive moves enables the players to take cover and move intelligently around the various environments, which in turn gives you a greater sense of being in control.

Plugging away at long range with your assault rifle is fine, but the action really gets hot when melee range is found. The chainsaw finisher and the curb stomp moves are the icing on the blood-soaked cake, and there's no greater feeling than walking away from an encounter where the other guys outnumber you three-to-one. Maybe our opponents just didn't have the skills. Whatever the case, Gears of War has, without question, some of the coolest multiplayer gameplay coming up this year, and it was hands-down the best console multiplayer offering at the show."

Knocking em out their.

"Chainsaw finisher and curb stomp moves" - well, you gotta give 'em points for style. A shame that game's still a bit off...

What I found _really_ fascinating was the 360<->PC interaction in Huxley. I like the idea of giving 360 players special roles that don't require the razor quick reflexes and precision of a keyboard mouse solution. If implemented correctly, it could also give players a reason to use both the PC and 360 versions .
