Think about it this way. The more people who have the system, the more people you have talking about it. Word of mouth can really only travel as far as people actually using the system. Everyone knows its a supply shortage. Just because they only got a few number of units doesn't equate to being good. For something to be good, word of mouth is the best thing.
Again, it's tinfoil hat people that think everything is a conspiracy.
Not exaclty. Supply and demand and price all work together. And you are seeing that effect here.
So if demand is high set supply low = high price. I mean the whole thing is basic economics. And it would be in MS best interest to limit supply to create more demand.
That makes no sense. MS does not see any higher price? They charge a set price to the retail/online stores. It's EBAY people who see the higher profits. It wouldn't be in their best interest to have huge sales spikes when they see no revenue increase. Essentially what they do is limit their own incoming revenue. Do they want a huge 4Q to finish out the year...or do they want to spread it out over the 4/1Q.
The price is all the same from MS stand point.

you can create a demand for your product by limiting supply. People will pay more for the the ones in supply. Your demand will go up because there is a limited supply. DUH!
So you are saying that you can make people buy a product they have no use for, or want, by simply saying its in low demand.
Whatever.
Well, in this case, Microsoft knew that people would have use for it and want it so they created a demand for it by limiting supplies.
Wait, so they know that people want it, so they limit their supplies. Thus limiting overall revenue. This isn't going to sell to people who don't want it. The people who are going to buy it....are going to buy it. Limiting your supply really does nothing but hurt the end user and your bottom line.
Honestly, no one has any reports like this. It's just people trying to trash on MS because it's MS.
Think about it this way. People who do get their hands on one are going to talk about it since it's the hot new game system this year. People who are curious about it or are thinking about it are going to hear the buzz and that's going to peak their interest in the system. Now these people are going to the store and see that the system is sold out and seeing that is going to reinforce the fact that it is a hot item and they're going to want it more and more as they keep looking for it.

Agreed.
There is NO way MS is limiting supply. It would be retarded and totaly against all forms of business study.
The more people who have the system means the more people who are buying games = more money.
Why do you think MS is also known as M$? Because they want to sell as few items as possible? Nope.
They picked the launch date that they did because it was the soonest date they could get several units to each store nation wide.

Sell it and profit, they are on sale for like $3000, offer to pay next day shipping or something for half price or free.
All the ones that are > ~$1,500 are being bid on by people with 0 feedback after being shill bidded to hell.
for that amount of money, i would say... "0 feedback members must contact me in advance before bidding."
Exactly what my auction says...
I just have BIN 1200 with manditory paypal payment before auction close and everything is working great for me
Have you sold any for that price?

PC Gamer couldn't put it any better (I can't remember the exact words): At E3 we saw the next gen consoles that offer high resolutions only on HDTV displays that cost several Ks, and internet and multimedia capabilities that were available on the PC since the 1990s.

They DID limit supply for launch day, guaranteed. It worked for the NDS, worked for the PS2, and it will work for the XBOX360.
Does that mean they will limit supplies through the holidays? No, of course not. But by limiting supply on launch day and selling out nearly everywhere, they have ensured this will be the hottest toy of the season.

DEFINITELY! I can't play PGR3, PDZ, Kameo, etc. on my PC. And even if I could, I still would rather play them on my 360.Originally posted by: frankierx
will you guys play this versus pc games?
The only downside to my day was that I could only manage to find a Core system. Which, in itself, isn't a big deal for me at all... Pick up a hdd, headset, remote, cables, and I'm all set.Originally posted by: PrayForDeath
What about you guys who bought the actual thing, what're your opinions? How are the games? I am sick of all the *waited in line* stories.

It's all about making everyone do impulse buys. If everyone sees it sold out minutes after launch, everyone goes into an impulse buy mode b/c theyhave to get it they will miss out. So, yes, MS did purposely limit the supply. Look at all thhe people who spent over 1k on ebay for it. They spent that much at launch b/c they belive that MS limited teh supply. So, on impulse, they did everythign they could to buy a 360, and if that meant spending three times the amount, then so be it. This is how aggressive marketing works....If MS had such a tight supply, why would they even bother giving one away every 10 minutes?
