Went to Walmart and bought one of those "Nyko Intercoolers" and plugged it in the back... it will play for 3-4 minutes and then it does the same thing... so - better then it was, but still crapping out...

I wonder if it's just a dusty fan or something inside that's clogged up or something? The thing is out of warranty anyway - anyone know if it's hard to open one of these bad boys up?
You can try this: http://www.clevermod.com/index.php?article=24

I don't know if you are a lazy person at heart though.

Have you tried calling MS? I thought all 360's bought in 2005 would be fixed for free..... try that.

No, warranty doesn't matter. A while back they announced that due to all the problems with the launch 360's, they would fix all of the ones bought in 2005 whether under warranty or not. Just call them and try.

Update on my 360 that was locking up...

It turns out that the unit was overheating... A buddy of mine and myself ripped it apart and narrowed it down to the GPU being the problem, getting VERY hot. We tried a bunch of things, but what we ended up doing to fix it was to cut the positive power connectors to the fans at the back, and soldering them to a 12v source on the motherboard... We then took some tin foil and placed it over the heatsinks ont he GPU and used electrical tape to hold it down... this makes a vacuum over the heatsinks.

Since the fans on the back push out at double the speed now everything inside is cool to the touch. We compared his XBOX (stock) and it's much hotter than mine, and mine was overheating bad. Even while playing Gears of War for 10 minutes the GPU was still very very cool... works awesome, and the XBOX is fixed.

The only bad thing is that the XBOX is a bit louder now... sounds just like a PC running (12v fans in computers too) but it saved me $500 on buying a new unit.

If anyone is having problems with locking up, red lights, etc. and they are out of warranty this is the mod to do... little extra noise is barely noticeable while playing a game.

could have had it fixed for free and paid $30 for a 1 year warranty, but either way, at least it's fixed

You were told multiple times Microsoft would fix it for free. Now, you've completely destroyed any chance of them touching it with a ten foot poll. You should pray it doesn't die on you.

I tried to tell him...

Even if they didn't cover it out of warranty, it still would have been a better idea to pay the $150 or whatever and have them fix it. Cheaper than buying new also.

Microsoft wasn't going to fix it anyway guys... I'm telling you. Trust me, that was my first thought. They would NOT fix the unit... Yes, Called and confirmed. No free fix. Maybe USA/Canada is different, but they weren't going to budge.

$150 vs. Free... and it will never overheat again? I'll take the free option.

Obviously if we're comfortable doing this, if something else goes on it we will just replace it/fix it too... For the average consumer, yes... pay the $150... for people who are comfortable with electronics - why not fix it if it's already out of warranty?

If it dies, I'll have to buy a new one... if it doesnt - I saved myself $150 for getting them to fix it, plus I have it for the holidays for my family to play with...

Good playing with ya. My roomie ended up getting a 360 also, so we have 2 360's in the living room + 2 TV's setup. It's funny. I haven't played much in the past 2 days. Oh - our NAT is back on strict now. I don't know what the hell happens to make it change.

Sounds like fun, your roomie was saying some pretty funny stuff the other day. (Either that or I had too much jack daniels and everything was funny. He just kept saying something like "I'm big, I'm an asian, and I"m sexy", lol. Was funny to me at least I was just mad the other night because I couldn't do much voice chatting with the wife sleeping, but still fun. I haven't played much, either. Probably will some tonight.

I don't know what would make it switch to strict, either. I never did anything to mine except for a normal setup, and I don't run wireless to my 360.

Yea same here. Except having our wireless router wired to our FIOS router. I did switch lan cables, but that shouldn't make a difference.

Yea, Jerry's a pretty funny guy. His handle is "ll cool jerry" if you want to add him. I probably won't be able to play much until maybe Thursday or Friday at the earliest, gonna be a busy week. :| I'm off Friday so I know I'll be on then

I just added him, thanks. I'm busy this week too preparing for vacation time. But I don't know if I'll pull an all nighter again because I was whipped when I had to get up early to do some work around the house.

For anyone who is interested in downloading movies off of the video marketplace: I notice that MI:III is out, but why dont' they offer it in hi-def? I want to try out the system for the heck of it, but dont want a standard def movie. It seems like most of them aren't offered in Hi-def, and I thought that was supposed to be a big selling point.

I played that night and got my ass totally owned. Between not knowing the maps and trying to unlearn GoW, I was getting popped left and right the first couple of matches. I slowly worked my way up to holding my own.

I tried playing GoW after playing R6 for a week straight, it's hard as hell to re-adjust.

Once you get the hang of it, and get into a good game with players that aren't just trying to get points, it becomes a hell of a lot of fun.

I just gave you an add natep. If you are playing GoW send me an invite if I'm on. I am due to play some more. I'll probably be playing R6 but dont' mind switching now and again.
