Completely awesome about the one year warranty extension. Mine was going to be up on the 4th of next month, but now my warranty won't expire until right before GTA and Halo hits shelves .

I haven't gotten XBL yet because I want to get a wireless router first.

Oh and I forgot to say before...I received a free $100 toys r us gift card for buying the 360. That will be going towards a 360 wireless adapter.

My brother got me the wireless headset for christmas, and after trying it for a couple days I realize it is horrible.

I have to talk really loud for people to hear me, and even then it sounds muffled with a lot of background humming noises.

Needless to say I'm back to using the standard wired one.

I wonder if Wal-mart will take it back even though I had to destroy the package to get the headset out? I don't even know if my brother still has the receipt, but it's a shame to waste $60

eBay it?

I haven't had anyone complain about how I sound on my wireless headset yet. I thought someone was complaining about me once but it turned out to be some other guy that had a wireless headset. I'm wondering if it has something to do with interference (or lack thereof for me) from other devices in the house?

But yeah, you do have to speak in AT LEAST a normal talking voice to get people to hear you.

I think I will at least give it a shot returning it to Wal-mart, with or without receipt depending on whether I can get it. If they won't take it back then I'll just ebay it, even though I hate ebay.

It's shame because I love how it fits on my ear. The standard headset always falls off of my head and isn't near as comfortable. I just can't always be talking THAT loud into the headset as sometimes others are sleeping or doing other things and don't want to hear me yelling "ENEMY HAS THE PACKAGE AT THE ESCALATOR" and stuff like that while playing R6

Two additional ways to get into the Halo 3 beta

Microsoft Announces Two Additional Paths of Entry to ?Halo 3? Multiplayer Beta

Gamers are invited to join the fight when the beta goes live this spring with Xbox Live and ?Crackdown? providing the final two paths.

Microsoft Game Studios and Bungie Studios are ringing in the year with a proverbial bang, as they announced today two new ways for gamers to receive an invitation to participate in the ?Halo® 3? multiplayer beta program coming this spring through Xbox Live® Marketplace.

Specifically, gamers will be able to receive an invitation by doing one of the following:

* Qualifying over Xbox Live and then being one of the first 13,333 ?Halo 2? gamers to register for the ?Rule of Three? program at http://www.halo3.com in early February
* Purchasing the upcoming game ?Crackdown?,? which hits store shelves in the U.S. on Feb. 20

The ?Halo 3? multiplayer beta, which is a pre-release version of the multiplayer experience of ?Halo 3,? is scheduled for availability in spring 2007 exclusively on Xbox 360?. The beta also represents an opportunity for gamers to participate in the testing and refinement of the multiplayer gameplay of ?Halo 3,? the most anticipated game of 2007. Through the resulting feedback, Bungie Studios will be able to further hone the end result of ?Halo 3.?

Beginning Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at 12:01 a.m. EST, all gamers need to do is participate in at least three hours of ?Halo 2? multiplayer sessions, via Xbox Live, before Feb. 3, 2007, at 11:59 p.m. EST and then be among the first 13,333 to register at http://www.halo3.com. The ?Rule of Three? program is currently planned for gamers in the 50 United States (includes District of Columbia) age 17 years and older who have access to an Xbox 360 Pro console or an Xbox 360 Core console with hard drive, a valid Xbox Live Gold subscription and the ?Halo 2? game. Gamers around the world are encouraged to visit http://www.halo3.com in the coming weeks for more information on the ?Rule of Three? program in their region.

As well, when ?Crackdown? hits store shelves, gamers eager to take home a copy of the highly anticipated exclusive action title for Xbox 360 will find marked boxes of ?Crackdown? that include an invite to participate in the coveted ?Halo 3? multiplayer beta program when it becomes available. When the ?Halo 3? multiplayer beta surfaces in spring 2007, owners of ?Crackdown? with access to an Xbox 360 Pro console or an Xbox 360 Core console with hard drive and a valid Xbox Live Gold subscription simply need to load their copy of ?Crackdown? into Xbox 360 and use the disc as a key to download the beta from Xbox Live Marketplace and join the battle in ?Halo 3? multiplayer. ?Crackdown? will be available in the U.S. on Feb. 20, Asian territories on Feb. 22 and European markets on Feb. 23.

In December, Microsoft Game Studios and Bungie Studios completed the first of three ways for North American gamers to participate in the ?Halo 3? multiplayer beta, by registering at http://www.halo3.com. Gamers who were selected from this initial opportunity will be contacted in January.

From Realtime Worlds, ?Crackdown? pushes the action-driving hybrid genre into the next generation with a rich and immersive 3-D playground. Gamers level up their Agent?s strength, agility, firearms, explosives and driving skills while scaling the fully vertical world of ?Crackdown.? This M-rated game incorporates revolutionary co-op gameplay throughout the entire free-form campaign. Creating a volatile cocktail of judicial oppression, players will clean up the streets of a truly interactive world when ?Crackdown? hits store shelves at an estimated retail price of $59.99.

Can someone clear up some of the details for me about 1080p on the 360? I received a new 1080p HDTV over Christmas, but had only payed passing attention to the whole 1080p fiasco until now. With the rumors of a new 360 model I've seen people posting conflicting information about 1080p on the current model.

I've seen several people say that 1080p is currently only support via VGA while other have said it is over component also. My 360 is currently connected via component cables and I did see a 1080p resolution option in the settings, so I'm assuming it is supported or I wouldn't have seen that option. My TV is a Samsung and it does support 1080p via component cables, so that's not an issue.

Also, can the 360 upscale DVDs? Again, someone said it does upscale DVDs, but only VGA. Is that true? I'm not sure I would even bother with the 360 as a DVD player since it's so loud, but I am now curious as to what the 360 can and can't do.

On a related subject... does the 360 still have color space issues with the VGA output? On my old HDTV the VGA color output was washed out so I switched back to the component since it looked better. Depending on what is or isn't true about 1080p and DVD upscaling using VGA I may consider switching back to VGA, but if the colors are still going to be washed out then I won't bother.

The 360 can support 1080p over component IF the TV can accept 1080p through component. Very few TVs do. Yours may be one of the few but double-check.

The 360 also supports 1080p over VGA.

Also, can the 360 upscale DVDs? Again, someone said it does upscale DVDs, but only VGA. Is that true? I'm not sure I would even bother with the 360 as a DVD player since it's so loud, but I am now curious as to what the 360 can and can't do.

Yes, upscaling DVDs only through VGA. Restrictions placed by the MPAA and other movie publishers prevent upscaling via component.

After the fall update, the VGA output is supposed to be better. Adjust your TV settings using AVIA Home Theater or THX Optimizer to get rid of any washed out look.

Just caught this over the wire;

Microsoft Crosses 10 million Xbox 360s Sold, Announces Xbox 360 Can Be IPTV Set-Top

Dean Takahashi, 06:30 PM in Dean Takahashi, Gaming

Bill Gates and Robbie Bach are expected to announce at the Consumer Electronics Show that Microsoft has sold more than 10.4 million Xbox 360s since the launch in November, 2005. That means Microsoft has also hit its targets for sales of consoles during the holidays.

Microsoft is also dropping something of a bomb at the show. Jim Brady, a spokesman for Microsoft, said Gates and Bach will say in the keynote speech Sunday night at the Venetian Hotel that the Xbox 360 will be able to serve as a set-top box for IPTV, or Internet protocol television. The details on this announcement are sketchy and Brady says only that it will appear later this year.

stBut that raises the specter of how much of a black box will the video game console become. If you can get your television, movies, music and other entertainment downloaded from the telephone companies such as AT&T -- a major IPTV provider that is using Microsoft's IPTV software -- and have it accessible through your Xbox 360, what else do you need? Maybe you don't need a PC.

For sure, there are a ton of unanswered questions here. But the prospects are interesting. Could AT&T give away Xbox 360s for free in exchange for users signing up for subscriptions to IPTV service, which gives high-definition programs, video on demand, and digital video recording? Will Microsoft have to come out with a larger hard disk drive for the Xbox 360 in order to allow it to fulfill the digital video recording function? Brady declined to comment. He did say that no consumers would be left behind, meaning that all of the 10 million plus Xbox 360s in the market would be able to participate in the IPTV services at some level.

Brady says gamers have shown that they like Xbox Live Marketplace and are downloading videos and music more than Microsoft anticipated already, even with the small 20-gigabyte hard disk on the Xbox 360.

In other details, Microsoft declined to say how many Zune music/video players it sold during the holidays. It will only say that it is targeting 1 million sold by June 30. There over 5 million Xbox Live members, though the paid portion is not borken out. Marketplace downloads, messages and other features are exceeding expectations.

Lastly, Nintendo hasn't yet disclosed how many Wiis it sold during the holidays. But Beth Lewellyn, a spokeswoman for Nintendo of America, said that sales in North America exceeded Nintendo's expectations. Nintendo predicted it would sell four million consoles worldwide by Dec. 31, but she could not confirm that number.

MS has really come out with gloves off this round.

EDIT:

Think someone let the cat out the bag a little early on this one. Article has been removed, probably is slated for this weekend sometime. Anyhow, if anyone had the low down on this info, it would certainly would be Dean Takahashi.

Xbox 360 Announcements Leaked: IPTV, DVR, VOD

Dean T. of the Mercury News just made an oops and leaked some Xbox 360 announcements Microsoft was planning on dropping next week at CES. Not only does he mention the improved Xbox 360s with 120GB hard drives and HDMI ports, he also talks about the use of the Xbox 360 as an IPTV set-top-box.

The leak says Microsoft's IPTV services will have instant channel change, multiple picture-in-picture, broadcast shows, video on demand, and DVR functionality?gotta use those 120GB for more than just trailers.

Sounds like Dean Takahashi's getting a Takahating from Microsoft tomorrow. ? Jason Chen

While I'm not running 1080P (I'm running 1366x768...native resolution of TV), I've been very happy with the VGA connection. Upscaled DVD's look great. The Xbox 360 is much quieter when playing DVDs...nothing like playing games. The drive (which makes most of the noise) spins at a slower speed since the bandwidth needed is much lower.

Love my Xbox 360!

The IPTV option has me seriously hyped. Especially if it's 720p (wishful thinking likely). But buying a larger hard drive for the sake of getting DVR functionality, live chat with other XBL users while watching a show, and being able to play with recording in the background... Oh my.
