Why even return it? Just RMA it with MS. He'd get it back in about a week.

He was really pissed at it, saying it "wasn't ready for primetime." Guess he didn't want to deal with it anymore.

Thanks in advance...trying to help a friend (nephew) out.

www.linux.org

Couldn't help myself.

Try out google or Microsoft support. And this is a hardware issue, so don't expect an easy fix. You'll need to wait for a patch or SP1 as others have joked. They'll have to underclock and/or reduce the voltage to resolve PSU issues. How could they have messed that up?

Thanks for the laugh and help.

He says it won't even boot. I'll look around some of the sites suggested.

However my power supply is on the ground and people were playing it all day, everyday during the thanksgiving holiday.

Eitherway as much as I hate service policies I'll probably be getting one for this. My original xbox (also purchased at launch) can't read a disc if it tried.

Those who missed out on the early Xbox 360 mania may get a second chance this week to find the new game system in stores.

Meanwhile, among those who managed to purchase the first systems, a small percentage already are shipping them back to Microsoft for repairs.

Major retailers such as Wal-Mart and Best Buy ran out within hours of last Tuesday's launch.

"We knew demand would outstrip supply for some time," says Circuit City's Jim Babb. "I have been told we'll get additional supplies, so I can only advise customers keep checking back with stores and on the website."

Microsoft's Molly O'Donnell says the company has "a weekly replenishment strategy." The first follow-up shipment "is on the way, and it should be on retailers' shelves by the end of the week or for the weekend."

Microsoft won't say how many of the $300-and-up systems were available at launch. American Technology Research analyst P.J. McNealy estimates 300,000 to 400,000 have been sold. The company expects to ship as many as 3 million worldwide within three months; the 360 launches in Europe Friday and Japan Dec. 10.

While Microsoft benefits from the buzz created by quick sellouts, McNealy says, "I think they would have been happy to have sold another million if they could have. They just didn't have them."

Meanwhile, Microsoft is acting quickly to address early reports of crashes and glitches. "We are doing everything we can to take care of gamers who are having problems," says O'Donnell, who says the rate of complaints is below the 3% to 5% expected with new eletronics products. (Those with problems should call 1-800-4MY-XBOX.)

Online message boards have reflected a number of technical issues, including hardware failure (indicated by three red lights on the power button), freezing games, scratched discs and overheated power supplies.

"As soon as the actual gameplay starts, it locks up," says owner Clayton Leasure, 26, of Knoxville, Tenn. He called the support line and was sent a prepaid box to use to ship his console back. "They have been helpful and prompt, so I can't ask for much more," he says.

Not all customers are satisfied. "The level of incompetence I have had to deal with is unbelievable," says Brian Smith, 48, of Owasso, Okla., who is trying to get a new power supply. "I can't describe how disappointed I've been."

Still, Richard Doherty of tech consulting firm Envisioneering Group gives Microsoft an "A" grade for the launch so far. "It could be an A plus if they pull through Christmas with this just being misuse or a misconception," Doherty says. "Do you want to wait six more months for an A plus? Not the gamers I saw in line on Tuesday."

Just got mine yesterday. Somehow lucked out and pre ordered from wal-mart four days before the release. Nonetheless, I'm really impressed so far especially with the media extension capabilities.

I think I'm going to start using the term "Wallflower" while playing PGR3 from now on. I either end up getting planted in the wall by someone who can't drive or try to take a turn too fast trying to catch up to the pack and plant myself.

Not sure if you've noticed, but the gamers are growing up, and it isn't just for kids anymore. If you are a gamer yourself, you'll probably still be a gamer in your 40's.

Just 'cause someone plants you into the wall, certainly doesn't mean they "can't drive."

How is RR6? That was one of my first PS games. I loved the fact that I could take out the game disc and pop in a CD of choice. Can you do this on RR6?

37 here. And my wife has accepted my gaming as part of who I am.

No need to. The 360 can stream music off the hard drive, mp3 player, or WinXP PC in any game.

According to my local paper, the average gamer is over 30. I work with quite a few gamers in their 40's, and even a few in their 50's. I don't really consider myself to be a gamer anymore, because I don't play anywhere near as much as I use to. However, I love video games, and god willing, I'll be playing until I die.

Doesn't the 360 come with a free live trial?

I went thru the paperwork and don't see anything how to sign up for free (Unless you just do it through the system itself?)

No, it's only one. I went through the same thing last night. Pissed me off because someone already had my gamertag.:|

Damn if they don't want your life story just to sign up!!! It took me about a half hour before I was in.

Ok, Never used Xbox live before.
I signed up (took forever) tonight and all that.
But now anytime I want to play a game (like Kameo) it signs me into xbox live automatic? Since it's connected to my profile and saves and stuff.

So anytime I play a game it logs me into live? Is there any option to have it where I tell it to sign me in? Besides a 2nd profile for "offline use" (I made one and I can't transfer my saves from my now "live" account)

Who cares if it puts you online, it doesnt affect your single player action....

It bugs me because it takes longer to log in and then the little profile screen comes down and I have to pick my name. Before live, it would just say "logged in' and go right away

If you go into your profile settings (or preferences, or something like that...) You can enable an automatic sign in on one of your profiles. Pick the one that has XBL and you are set.

I'm happy, Dell has shipped my order. Should be here tomorrow (paid for overnight, and I'm in Kansas, and Dell's orders always get here fast, in fact, the other order for a PSP power adapter that I went with 3-5 day will probably get here tomorrow as well).

I do. I have it auto, I start kameo, title screen goes on, hit start, then the little side menu comes out and asks me to log in anyways.

Interesting... Everything auto logs in for me, no matter what game I play. There's got to be a setting somewhere.
