probably faster just to write it rather than trying all these things to recover the files since you already got it to work.

unless you got it to work by fildling around and trial and error and have no idea how you did it...

I've been working on my final assignment for my C++ class all week. It is painfully long. I just finished all of the classes...finally. I spent the last 2 days debugging my file IO and functions for sorting linked lists. It was finally working...I went to compile...and BAM. VC++ crashes. I open it...it deleted the file that made up about 50% of the stuff I had done, and had all of the most complicated functions like the ones above.

I guess its out the window for me...

That exact thing happened to me on my semester project in one of my grad classes.. I wrote an explosion simulator with adjacent objects to show propogating explosion barriers.. I lost about 3 months of work Needless to say I now backup way more than I should

go to tools>diskeditor
then select your drive
then go to access>directory browser and find the dir that you had the file in, then do a search for a string of text that may have been in your source code.

edit: actually you could just select your drive, then do the search. I tested it by creating a text document with the text 'recoverme', and deleting it and then doing a search in winhex for 'recoverme'. Good luck!

hmm You could try going to tools >disktools>filerecovery by name, and just type in the name of your source file (be sure to save it to a different physical drive though), but the free version you're using might have this feature disabled, so you might just have to do more specific searches and copy/paste into a text file. Hope this helps.

I'm searching now. A quick search turned up nothing, now its doing a thorough test that will take 3 hours :Q

There is no way to decompile the mailbox.obj file?

I had that happened with an essay due like in 4 hours... i was putting the final touches on it, and windows crashes!!! So i reboot, and it automatically went into diskscan... and fixed the error by dumping the file. Eventually i was able to recover about 90% of it with Norton, but it was still a pain in the ass.

they come in handy later on also i think i have used my linked list sorting code several times

and did a translation from C ++ to C and I even used that quite a few times

anyway save all your code i have tons of C, C++ and java code that is still very useful as a reference or that i can just steal
