I want to blow my own head off after buying this and watching it. I understand that Kurt hated their hits but jesus christ he absolutely buthcers it. That wasn't any way to put on a show. If you choose to be a friggin' entertainer don't sabotage your material when it gets big in some selfish self destructive breakdown. The performance in question was in front of a captive british television studio audience. You can tell that they were under orders to dance and be merry b/c the shock at the travesty of his singing still rings through. YOu can tell everyone in the crowd was thinking wtf is this. Ugh. I had to watch the official video on you tube to console myself.

So then I put on Come As You Are to try and find some value in the whole thing, and he just screams it like an angry toddler. I dare say he deserved Courtney Love.

I definitely want to get the AIC DVD.

nirvana reshaped the 90s and music as we know it, they are almost as influential as the beatles (not really close, but nobody is).

They reshaped pop rock, or "mainstream" rock, whatever you want to call it.

"Music as we know it" is only relative to the 13 - 20something year olds who were watching MTV at the time.

Music is absolutely huge and not limited to whatever junk gets the most airtime on the local radio station.

Edit: Oh, and the only reason anybody gives a rats ass is because he died. Otherwise they would've sold out and gone flat out into generic, radio friendly rock sooner or later, and then all you would ever hear is how they sold out, or how fantastic the "old" Nirvana was.

What a load of bullshit. How can you begin to assume that they'd sell out "and gone flat out into generic, radio friendly rock"? If you read anything about the band and especially Cobain you'd see he despised being the center of attention, and it was evident from his actions and thoughts that he was hardly a sell-out.

Yeah, because you know, the bulk of musicians or bands who have a growing fanbase with a wide open door to shoot into the spotlight and make tons of cash generally "keep it real" and resist buying into any of it.

On top of that I think it's hilarious that there's mention of how he never wanted to be the center of attention, especially from his actions.

You know, since he apparently killed himself in 1994 and there are still legions of zombies out there going "Cobain.. GOOOOD!" Even now still sitting here talking about Cobain and Nirvana and their impact on music.

But hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Obviously I can't prove that they would sell out, but that's my guess. It happens to the best of them. Remember when Metallica said they wouldn't ever make a music video? It's kinda scary how fast a dumptruck full of money and a staduim full of screaming fans seems to make people forget their principles and do whatever it takes to add fuel to the fire of their success.

He was addicted to heroin. It really got bad toward the end.

Look at this...

"A performance of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from the UK show Top of the Pops where Cobain deliberately sang the song in a lower octave. Under the established format of the show, the band was supposed to mime the studio version of the song while Kurt sang live. They opted not to comply."

I respect that.
