I do not see the point in upgrading your mainboard when you use a 2.35 Ghz CPU, as 3.4 Ghz CPU's are allready available.

But if you insist, Abit is usually a safe bet for overclocking mainboards.

MSI and chaintech NF3-250 boards are supposed ot be good overclockers, you may want to chect them out. I doubt you will bebale to get a whole lot more out of the 3000+. It should be quite fast the way you have it now and getting an extrta 100Mhz out of it may not be very cost effective.

ZipZoomFly should have the Asus K8N-E Deluxe board in stock today. That's the one I've been waiting for.

i think i can get more out of my chip than 350 mhz... im thinking at least 500, and i want to do that. This board itself is great, but i cant stand the chipset... i miss my nforce and i would like to try another. I'll look into the asus

LOL his measley 2.35 will utterly stomp a 3.4GHZ preshott and a 3.2 Emergency Edition I might add. Go read some reviews nooB

The preshotts have twice the lengths to go before spitting out the information it better be clocked higher.

Here are two: look at the 3700+ that's what he has aprox clocked 50mhz less. But close enough. *Beware* it gets ugly in the gaming benchmarks.

a couple replies on the asus k8n.. any arguments? I hear the epox board is pretty decent as well (especially for the money, like 90 bucks)

asus is now showing july 25th, so i may go with the epox, or the msi again or just get an asus k8t800 board as i want this resolved and i cant wait another month. Also the fact that asus is that far delayed and msi is having problems and abit said something about issues with the nforce3 lead me to beleive their may in fact be issues with the nforce3 chipset.

Do you know if your issues are related to the DTR chip you are using? Do you think things would work better with a "normal" A64?

I am impressed by the MSI Neo Platinum, but the problems are a bit worrisome. However, it seems like most people with problems are trying to run mobile chips. Is that what you've noticed as well?

So, barring any potential problems, my vote is with the MSI K8N Neo Platinum.

-D'oh!

yes, most of the problems apear to be related to trying to run a mobile or drt, bios recognizes the chip but screws up settings. Otherwise it is a great board, and with one ram stick in i cant get rather amazing overclocks (8*300 at 1.45 volts on my 3200+), but it wont boot at proper mutliplier and with memory in anything but slot 1 i cant set teh multiplier to the correct one even in windows. Some people have also reported issue with the sata connectors, (use 3,4 not 1,2), but with a desktop chip it seems to be solid.

With a 3200 they get a very good overlcock. The Chaintech review on this site gets a good overclock and performs faster them most of the boards. Can't really tell with chips though depends on which one you get. I'm getting a 3200+ just cause I have seen everyone getting good overclocks on them and the 1mb l2 is something I am sure newer software and games will take advantage of. I bet games with a lot of physics or complex AI will see an improvement but I am not sure.

this question is dear to my wallet as well as i am hoping to grab the A64 3000+ but still unclear as to which mobo i should go with.

Hard OCP had the KV8 PRO as their recommendation with the 3000+. have any used this combo?

tks

***EDIT***

also very interested in the avg o/c for the 3000.

Most of us seem to be getting about 2.4ghz from the C0 3000+ so I'd call 2.4ghz the average on air, with 2.5ghz to the exceptional side and sub 2.3ghz on the DUD side. I haven't seen a 250GB board I'd buy yet so I won't be swapping my AN50R till I find one.
