Is it safe to leave my monitors on 24/7? I have a Dell 2408WFP (24" LCD) and a Dell SP 2208WFP (22" LCD).

I used to have a 2407WFP, but the power button broke after only a year. I had been turning it off whenever I left my desk.

My two new monitors I leave on. I still turn my PC off at night and have the power settings in Windows turn off the monitors after 20 minutes of no activity. When windows turns them off, they look like they had been turned off with their power buttons, but their buttons are still lit.

Should be fine. They are just in standby mode. Many electronics today are in fact in standby mode anytime they are plugged in, drawing a few watts of power. I can't see that it would be a problem.

I remember it was bad to leave CRT's on all the time due to the phosphorous burn-in effect, but I don't think LCDs have that problem. I can't really see an issue to leaving LCDs turned on all the time except for increased electric bills.

I turn my LCD off whenever I'm away from it for more than 15min. It's no small amount of power my 20" Viewsonic uses.

LCD's CAN still have a screen burn in, Ive seen it many times.

As mentioned above, as long as you are sure that they are going into standby, its practically no different than being off completely (while plugged in)

I have a Dell 2407WFP-HC. At first, I tried turining it off each time I turn the computer off, but finaslly changed my mind after reading too many posts on the Dell Forums from people who broke the ON/OFF button. So I leave it on at all time, and in Windows Power Management Options, set the monitor to turn off after 20 minutes of inactivity... such as when running a P2P app unattended

What matters is that the backlight is off when the monitor is in Stanby Mode.

When the monitors are in standby mode they use a really small amount of power, like on the order of $1 per year.

Screen saver FTW? I still have my 3 year old CRT monitor that I kept on 24/7 for about 2 years. No screen burn in thanks to that fancy new fangled thang called the screen saver

I would agree though that leaving it on without a changing screen would cause burn in.

For the past year though I have used an LCD and it either goes on standbye or I turn it off. The only thing I am worried about is lamp life which is usually 40,000hrs or so. So IMO LCD's should be either turned off or put on standbye after a certain amount of time.

I have left my Monitor on 24/7 for the last 8 years, but it is a high quality CRT. I leave my LCD on 24/7 as well, but when I forget to turn the computer off I get burn in on my screen, and I have had to replace two monitors because of that.
