I dare anyone on this forum to uninstall Bioshock then reinstall it on another pc, then uninstall it again and reinstall it again. I bet the third time it won't work. Even after uninstalling the 2 activations you were given are not given back. I just tried it on a friend's copy he bought at Circuitcity and now we can't get it to install on any of his pcs. He has a gaming pc, secondary pc and a laptop for college.

I dare you to bang your head against the wall 30 times. I bet it's gonna hurt. Whey would you do this? Play the game, beat it, done. Sheesh.

You know Regent is Pat Robertson's law school right? It's a tier 4 school in a Christ-centered environment. If the poster professed love for Jesus they'd let him in. Naturally GW has hundreds of Regent grads in his admin. Don't mean to go all P&N on you, but take whatever this guy says with a grain of salt, which as he would tell you is a remnant of the salt pile previously known as Lot's wife, a sinner who chanced a glance at the fallen cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Great job illustrating your complete ignorance of everything faith-based and religious!

Well, I'm upgrading my CPU today, so we'll see what happens.

If uninstalling does not give you one more install (of 2), then that is a completely different issue than most people are complaining about, which is merely that they do not like being limited to having to uninstall it in the first place. That would make the product defective and you should be entitled to a refund, although I suppose they could argue that you just have to make one phone call to have it fixed. Also, I am not sure whether the retailer from you purchased it would be required to issue the refund as opposed to 2kgames itself.

You know yesterday I ran into a problem in Bioshock and it crashed to desktop, and Steam wouldn't run anymore. I had to uninstall Steam without uninstalling the games first, so I probably used up one of my activations. HOWEVER, I've seen reports that Steam activations are system-based, not per-installation. If that's true then I've still only used 1 activation (I re-downloaded the game overnight). But I won't know for use until I have to install again.

I wish 2K would just say how all this works, very plainly, in an announcement, not a fourm somewhere.

Wow...

I was going to buy this game on Steam. 2k can kiss my ass until they remove it like Epic did the DRM in my DVD Special of UT2k4 when it wouldn't install saying no valid media was found.

Maybe that divorces me from any emotion, there doesn't seem to be any humanity on show other than some shouting.

The atmosphere, level of violence and subject matter is very mature, which is a nice change from the self-censorship so prevelant in the gaming industry these days.

I don't see why people are complaining about the textures and such...everything looks amazing to me, although the atmospheric steam and fog does become annoying at times...

I haven't been impressed with some of the lighting/fog. I remember there was an issue for Source games on NVIDIA cards where it looked like pea soup. That's what I seem to be getting in places. I'm running an 8800 on DX9 with the beta drivers so I don't know what I'm doing wrong

Also, ammunition and ADAM is a bit too plentiful...so far in Bioshock, I have been able to essentially zap and shoot at will, with little concern for getting stuck with only a wrench to get by...

There were so many med kits, bandages and bits of food in the demo I felt like I'd walked into an epsiode of ER.

When I played the demo again last night, a darker room helped a lot, along with the fixed FOV. I didn't have the sound on, just listened to some internet radio while I messed about. If it's true that it seriously picks up the pace a few hours in, I'll pick it up.

That's bullshit how it applies to steam versions of the game too.

They had better remove that activation crap. I already bought a copy, but if I run into any problems with it after reformatting, I'll have to sail the seas to play a game I legitimately bought.

On a side note, I'm still loving this game. Pitting two big daddies against each other is awesome.

It's rather sad that the game's awesome gameplay becomes a side note to the horrid copy protection

I'm having a huge amount of trouble running out of ammo constantly. I'm way behind on available gene upgrades, and I'm getting my ass handed to me regularly by large groups of splicers. I love it.

I have not had that issue, I run dx10 though with beta drivers.

I think there's a thread regarding this on Steam. They did push an update out that dealt with uninstalls and reinstalls. Have a look at this thread. I haven't read it all myself yet but hopefully it's good news.

Yep and it now looks like its a lie that even after you uninstall the game it doesn't give you back that activation.

So even after you uninstall the game you still would only have 1 activation left.

So basically only two full installs before you have to call and beg for more activations. The problem is not a lot of people have tested it because they are scared, but I don't blame. Now if someone had to do it they won't think this will happen maybe or they just tested it for fun.

I fully intend on returning the copy I have just to get another key to future proof myself.

hey guys,
first, let me say this. you DO NOT NEED TO USE THE INTERNET EVERY TIME YOU PLAY THIS GAME. it is only the first time.

second, you can uninstall and reinstall this game, and if, by chance, you have 2 computers you want to simultaneously play this game on, you also can do that.

if by some chance you are reinstalling this game without uninstalling it first, a lot, there is a chance you may have to call securom and get a key, or deactivate some older installations.

but if you upgrade your hardware next week, you'll still be able to play the game. if you revamp your system and need to reinstall bioshock, just uninstall it before you go through the overhaul, and then do your reinstall.

calling it "hardware fingerprinting" is a bit alarmist. we do not transmit any of your data to any companies.

really, the only people who will be concerned about any of these security measures are those who are rapidly putting bioshock on many pcs... if you use the game as you normally do, you won't notice this at all

ANY MORE QUESTIONS?

First Bold: This seems like BS. I have never heard of a ANY game allowing this, unless it is freeware or something.

Second Bold: More BS... I love how people can make blanket statements like that... Actually, I don't love it, I hate it. The people who are concerned are users on this forum who have been bit in the ass by DRM. If DRM keeps getting worse and worse you are going to find the average joe pirating anything he can get his hands on, just to make a statement. I am becoming less and less sympathetic to publishers whining about pirates. Everygame gets cracked anyway, so why not treat your customers like customers rather than criminals.

Bottom line - 2 Installs = the suck.

This is information from 2K themselves. I don't understand why you call it BS.

If you ever need more than 2 installs, you CALL THEM. God forbid you make human contact. This is the same thing as Windows XP activation. They will GIVE you a new key.

Bottom line: This is not an issue because you will always be able to haev an install. If you can't install for some other, technical reason, that is different.

on the 2k forums people are having this problem and can't get it fixed. NOBODY knows what to do. people are being told that they have to wait until people come back from vacation to get it fixed.

great planning on 2k's part.

Well if calling doesn't work right now, that is 2K's fault. I doubt that 2K would leave customers out to dry though, so hopefully it'll be dealt with soon. You have to wonder though, how in the 9 circles of hell did these people install and uninstall twice?

EXACTLY, its been less than two days!

Ok, so you have a Laptop, and you have a Desktop. That is the boat I am in... I travel a lot! So, I install the game on my laptop that is powered by ATI graphics. It doesn't run right, so I uninstall the game, and reinstalling it. Same thing... Now, I do the same on my desktop, except that is using nVidia. So, what are the chances the game's graphic drivers are the problem? Not as likely as the game itself being the problem... So, I do the same thing. Bingo, all my installs are done. Now, what if someone decided to reinstall their OS as a result? I find it VERY likely to use up 3-4 installs...

Laptop - Install (used one)
Laptop - Reinstall (There goes #2)

Still does not work... Ok, lets try Desktop

Desktop - Failed install - too many activations. Real hard to duplicate, eh?

if you revamp your system and need to reinstall bioshock, just uninstall it before you go through the overhaul, and then do your reinstall.

Youre only supposed to have two installs anyway

yes that is how it is soppsoed to work. BUT IT IS NOT!

not to mention what about HD failures? what about computer failures?

even how they say it works (uninstall the game then you can reinstall) is not working. people have tried that and no success. they then call securrom and they are told to call 2k. So they call 2k wich says its not there problem its securRoms.

Finally someone posted how they talked to someone at 2k and they said there was NOTHING in place to deal with such things.

I played a bit more so will make my first initial impressions of the game ,graphics and sound are ok however I won't say they are amazing but decent IMHO,only negative thing I can find so far is FOV on widescreen mode to me seems wrong, I know there's a lot of posts about FOV in various forums around the web so won't comment any further on that subject.

Hardware wise it's not too demanding so far from what I have played, you do need to tweak the graphic settings in options depending on your PC hardware .

No crashes yet so stability seems excellent.

I'm going to take my time and search every part of the map/game,I read the game is quite short around 20 hours so will see if that's the case once I get to the end.

I'm using the new beta Nvidia drivers 163.44 btw.

The game's only 20 hours?!?!

WTF.

I pay a bunch of money to install a bunch of copy protection bullshit that makes avg go wild and steam crash and now I find out the game is shorter than my work week??? Wow. I am seriously disappointed

Yeah I'm one of the 'explore everywhere' types too. I've found some neat things. I wonder if it gives any special rewards or anything for finding all the voice recordings.

yeah the game is been ok so far. im not that in though.

i have crashed once so thats pretty good so far. as for the graphics i really don't care. sure they could be better but that is not going to stop me from playing a good game.

IF it is around 20 hours i will be ticked. thats far to short. not to mention for how much i spent on the damn game.

grr

One last thing I read their activation server is being hammered so if your activation key comes up invalid keep trying, this has worked for a quite a few people and is down to overloaded server(activation wise).
