True, but who installs and uninstalls a game three times in the same day? This "catastrophic" problem with the release seems limited to a very small portion of the gaming population. I would assume most of us install, play through, uninstall, and call it a gaming experience.

it shouldnt matter if it is a small protion. not to mention there are reasons to install it on more then one system.

i have My gameing rig. my wife plays games. so thats 2 installs. Now what happens if one us had a hadware or software failure?

edit: also i was thinking of getting Vista for the DX10 support. so if i want to test wich is best between vista and Xp?

It seems that 2k has been changing their stances on this whole issue, firstly swearing by what they (didn't) tell us at launch, and now trying to figure out why their fancy copy protection system has failed so miserably and made so many people cancel orders and flame the game.

yeah. i think 2k just did not know what they were in for. i think they are suprised at the backlash and were not ready for such a huge failure.

its to bad. the game while graphicly meh is pretty good (to me story is more important them graphics. hell i still play FF6!). But i woud give back the game for a full refund in a heartbeat.

waggy I feel sorry for you because you bought it retail and anyone else who has. It sucks because I don't even know if steam will remove the DRM but I hoping they will stand up soon. Not sure what 2kgames will do for their retail customers.

Us lucky retail customers can always exchange our copies for new ones and get new keys

People payed 20-30 dollars for HL2 EP 1 when it first came out which had a grand total of 4-6 hours.

The Bad
Incredibly short, featuring only four to six hours of gameplay No new multiplayer content.

EP1 is a segment of a game (which I waited till it was 9.95 on special to get ), while Bioshock is a single player ONLY game with a neutered campaign (if what I've read is true.. we'll see in the next couple days)

A single player game should have more than 20 hours to the campaign. Fear and prey have multiplayer to save them from short campaigns.

Also my Bioshock DVD will be worth millions in a few thousand years or so,I may be dead by then but can pass my legacy on .

I have no problems with the game itself but how they use activation etc...pirates get to play Bioshock with no hassle while honest gamers like us that buy the game have to go through some hassle(took me 5 hours just to get the patch and install the game) ,I'm all for protection etc but think they could of made it easier.

I agree graphics are not that important,I still play some old games where graphics look crap by todays standards ie XCOM games, however if you can have everything nice gameplay, sound, graphics etc... its icing on the cake .

This fiasco with copy protection bothers me because I can imagine (hopefully incorrectly) the Take2 game devs muttering about how much easier it is to make games for XBox360 over PC given that they try to avoid pirates on PC and by doing so cause even more problems.

That's good enough for me since I never played multiplayer on FEAR.

Well, the point I'm trying to make now is that hose games had shorter single player campaigns because the dev team had to work on the multiplayer / netcode and whatnot.

Bioshock's dev's have no such excuse.

I wish 2K would just say how all this works, very plainly, in an announcement, not a fourm somewhere.

I think there's a thread regarding this on Steam. They did push an update out that dealt with uninstalls and reinstalls. Have a look at this thread. I haven't read it all myself yet but hopefully it's good news.

Steam supports games to be downloaded and played wherever we go, but only at one place at a time. Will this update make it possible for BioShock to be used in this way?
That's exactly what this morning's Steam update does.

Some posters are asking for confirmation this means more than 2 PC's.

A person from steam got on and said you could install it on as many PC's as you wanted. BUT latter another person from steam came back and said no you can't do that. Even the steam version is limited to 2 installs.

Wow there is so much confusion

I wish steam and 2kgames would just come out and state a official word. The longer it takes them the more likely less people will get Bioshock at all.

I think anyone who purchased a retail copy locally, should bring their game and box back and claim the DVD was defective, get another copy and leave it un-opened for use later when you may need it.

i fail to see how the graphics in this game are 'meh' or subpar as a general statement encompasing the whole game graphically. while some elements, like textures in some parts, can be lacking - overall the graphics are a superb creation of this otherworldly retro-sci-fi art-deco masterpiece.

it gets better as you go along in the game too.

True, you also have to factor in replayability...I have certainly encountered games that were ridiculously long, and for which I lost interest after a couple of hours.

20 hours of immersive and intense gameplay is a fair value for the retail cost of a PC game, especially if that game has replay value. I have revisited very few games, and those I have were not necessarily long in total gameplay, but very rewarding in terms of gameplay experience.

Given the various weapons at your disposal in BioShock, and the flexibility in character augmentation, I can see playing through the game more than once.
