I have 8086 laying about as the oldest. I have a running hall of shame processor collection ranging from 286-16mhz, 386DX 16s, 486SX 20s all the way, and just about everything inbetween, to Athlon Tbirds and Durons ( cause I will use anything after those for stuff ). I have a a few old computers that work that include a Tandy 1000 with a 25mhz AMD 386 that sold for a 16mhz 386sx on label. I also have a RARE 386SX33 which was my 2nd computer and also Doom Rig. It is a Victor so it is basically a better model of tandy... even has the 8bit DAC. Was 1993 when I got that rig and that christmas I got a 1x CD pre-MPC label upgrade that included Mantis experimental fighter, Civilization and Mediavision Proaudio Spectrum 16 w. SCSI and NEC 1x External CDRom ( still have that too). I am a sad case... I know.

TY. I made the Intel one a little over 5 years ago. and the AMD one about a year after that. I've always been facinated by watching computer tech grow at the pace that it has.

and oldish G3 (from a mac). Its got some of the cache on the package, not on the actual die, and no heatspreader so you can see it all, which is pretty neat.

Nice work phaxmohdem. It would be interesting to add up the MSRP for all those procs. You forgot to save room for your FX-51 though.

I still have an 8Mhz Motorola 68000 in the Macintosh SE my parents bought for me and mny brothers when I was 5. I learned assembly language on this proc and got very spoiled, easy as pie, especially compared to x86 and PPC

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macintosh_SE

This is not counting the 1.79MHz Ricoh 6502 Processor in my NES

You are missing a few of the Classic Pentium CPU's, they came in several differant packages for the same socket. Also missing from your collection is IBM 686, Cyrex, Alpha, and one other I forgot about.....

My oldest is an intel pentium 100 Mhz. I had an old 286 chip lying around but I have not seen it for a long time.

I have an old celeron 450 the oldest in use is my P3 Tualatin Sever version @ 1.4GHz with 512K full speed cache (vs half speed)

At that time Intel and AMD had come to a technological brickwall where conventional sockets could not fit the next generation of processors on them, it was believed that slot processors would replace socket based CPU's. Slot based processors had the advantage of being much more flexible than socket based CPU's, becasue Cache and co-processors could easily be added to the package.

After several years cpu socket technology had caught up and shunk things quite a bit, so Intel and AMD no longer needed to use Slot based designs.
