8MB or 8Mb? I've never seen a 286 with 8MB of ram before...my 486DX25 had 8MB of ram...

Most 286 Systems came from the factory w/ 512 or 640K RAM. You could upgrade them to a full meg sometimes. My old 286 IBM PC AT machine had 640K onboard RAM, and It had an add in ISA card that added 1.5MB or ram to the system for a monsterous 2.1MB of total usable RAM. I've personally never heard of a 286 with more RAM than my old machine had, though it is completely plausible that similar ISA add-on cards could support 2,4, or MAYBE even 8MB. Though I"m not even sure that the 286 & its chipset could support more than 2MB of RAM.... I seem to vaguely remember some wierd 286 Mode on Windows 3.11 that had an Extended RAM limitation??? Someone back me up or correct me on that please.

Linky to my Elderly AMD CPU's

Wow, I have to cast a vote for the picture of the Year on Anand.

To answer the question, the oldest I have is a K6-2 3xx MHz, I don't even remember the clock exactly.

I have a 6502 - I think they are 1MHz - I have an Apple IIe with monitor and disk drivers.

It still works and I normally connect to my PC through the serial port for backing up the floppies - I can restore them also. I have most of Apple floppies on a CD now - I can run on the PC with an emulator.

Beside that one, I have a 486DX33 Intel (just the chip) and a 486DX133 AMD (PC) that also still runs Win95. It has the original Soundblaster and a Diamond Speedster with Cirrus Logic video. And a US Robotics 14.4 modem.

It was the slot A and it was built on the EV6 bus, liscensed from DEC alpha. It was a decent package for its time and had good cooling with factory stuff. I have an 800mhz T-bird that was just a socket A tbird graphed onto the slot A cart. The slot T-bird had full on-die cache running at cpu speeds. Older Athlons on the cart had off-die cache that was on a divider.

I even have a golden orb cooler, which btw were crap on the slot variations, that is still mounted on my still working Slot A system. AGP 2.0 support was pretty crap in the Iron Gate AMD chipset and you cannot boot into X Windows or Windows 2000 without doing some sort of raindance and voodoo doll magic on it. It worked fine in windows 98, ME and even OS/2 warp 3.0 ( which I have 3 box copies of thanks to ebay circa 2001. )

The oldest cpu I have around is my Axp 1800+ running in my server box. I have a Cyrix PR200+, Athlon 1ghz and Athlon 1.4ghz that are all dead (static shocked) and sitting in my drawer but I don't think those count.

Its still in the box, original heatsink included.

I've got a 200MHz Pentium w/MMX. It's still going strong. Running an FTP server and Folding on Windows 2000. Oh, and it's actually on an ATX motherboard.

I'm writing this reply on a AMD K6-III+ (400MHz oced to 561 MHz) right now! 384 MB ram, and 2 legacy ISA slots. However, I'm also tortuously attempting to assemble an X2 system as we speak so I can retire this system, which was king of the hill in '99. This post will probably be its last action... unless I turn on the new system and nothing happens, in which case its last action will be to desparately post on here for help.

an old old 386. It had a turbo mode button that would basically overclock the thing a bit.

Had a Pentium II 350Mhz lying around a few weeks ago, but that's gone now.

Oldest CPU around my house is now a Sempron 2400+ . . .
