let me clear up a few things......
I work in the OMX corp office in Cleveland, OH, and I can assure you that the list I have posted are stores that are in fact closing....a liquidation company is now running those stores, they are no longer part of our financial company...employees at those stores were offered positions at nearby stores, if possible, or a generous severance package....Gateway, prior to the 46 store closings, had already pulled a significant portion of its people out of our stores for the time being, as they are experiencing a very difficult financial period.
Price matching and hot deals have nothing to do with these stores closing. These are stores whose locations were poorly picked in the first place, and the bottom line is that they were not profitable enough to even pay their monthly rent, so the obvious choice is to shut them down. Some stores were in strip malls where the big draw left, like a Hills or a Montgomery Ward, and others were just in areas that have deteriorated...rest assured, OMX isn't going anywhere!
The pricing at the 46 stores that are closing is now up to the liquidator...I would guess you will see a steadily increasing markdown % until the last few weeks. Don't go crapping on OMX because the 'deals' at the closing stores aren't as good as you might have hoped!
Hope this clears things up!
