Sony has a 30.00 rebate on this drive dru51a on the Sony website. That would bring it down to 149.99, plus a free hat or t-shirt!

Where are you shopping??? My Safeway here in Seattle has 10packs of Ramen for $1, you can eat for days on it (I know, I do).

Is Newegg considered the best of the component shops? What are a couple runners-up? Best Byte Computers seems pretty good, particularly with flat $5 shipping (when Newegg doesn't have free shipping, it can get out of hand quickly).

Well, SVC actually puts things on sale once in awhile, newegg just plays with shipping prices. They offer free shipping and jack the item price, or lower the item price and charge for shipping. There are no real sales at newegg.

Unlike SVC who actually sold the slk 900a for 19.99$

Best Byte sucks. They sold me a shim that was supposed to fit on an XP, but the cut outs were no right. When I e-mailed them they told me it was my problem, there was nothing they would do about it, and I could just contact the manufactuer (who was in a different country and had no contact info or website)

I hate that place.

Well actually, if you go to SVC's front page, all their items list "On sale" prices (compared to retail prices). Makes it look like a great deal and people jump on it. I agree that SVC does have some great deals though. I buy from them frequently since I live about two miles away and can just pick up the items.
