Hey does anybody know if Lexar will honor this rebate if you sent away for the earlier one (like a week ago) from Buy.com???

I called Fry's this afternoon. Told they have more than 1000 on back order. According to the guy on the phone, if you order one now, you probably won't get it until sometime in November AND you will NOT be able to use the rebate. Sucks to have missed this deal. :-(

Is there a limit on how many files can be stored in the root directory on one of these cards.

I tried filling mine up with Mp3s and 3 times it had an error while attempting to copy the 175th file into the root directory. If I create a directory I don't get any errors no matter how many files I copy(which would be fine if my MP3 player could read a directory).

Edit:

Finally googled the right search.

FAT has a limit of 512 files/folders in the root directory(which is reduced by long filenames).

Interesting, I guess I will just have to shorten the filenames.

For $72-80 (and dropping) the PQI 1GB drive is pretty slick from Newegg.com (AND NO REBATES)

http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=20-214-009&depa=0

This is absolutely the SMALLEST usb drive possible.... and you can carry two in a credit card holder that is included.
You can use the drive with or without the outer case.

Read/Write speeds are about 8-10mb/s which is typical.

I still prefer my SanDisk 512mb Titanium drive....15-18mb/s...however the Exec's really like showing off the PQI drive.

I just love usb drives..... it's the only time I've heard guys boasting that their's is smaller!

Anyhow...

Edit: Fixed link....dang, now it's $85...it was only $70 last week...and $96 the week before....

Got in on this Saturday. I think there were only two left on the shelf at the time (Burbank).

That is true, for FAT16. For FAT32, the number of entries in the root directory is unlimited. Why would you want to format a 1GB flash drive to FAT16? Unless of course your MP3 device required it, I guess.

Edit: Btw, can the OP fix the title, and add "AR" somewhere? The current title is mis-leading. Thanks.

I snapped the board while attempting to take the cover off and broke it. This is not a very robust USB drive at all. After poping it open, bending the board and some glue everything is back to normal.

I think you just didn't know how to remove it from its "case". I really like this design since this drive will be in my pocket. If only I could figure out why it won't work on my Dell at the office:|
