online mp3 creation and hosting

Why is it impossible to find a website that lets you record an audio message and they (website) host the message as an mp3 file?

I have found that there are sites that let you record audio but they save/host it as some proprietary file type...I think that's what they are doing because the link to the created file doesn't have an extension.

I don't want to have to convert it to mp3 then upload it to a hosting site. I'd prefer one-stop shopping (or one stop audio recording/hosting).

Seems like vocaroo does exactly that: records, mp3 download, and hosts (not sure if there's an expiration).

EDIT: I just copied the 'download mp3' link and noticed that it's "_mp3". It wouldn't play on an mp3 player.

I think its not a download link, but rather a link that allows you to view the voice recording then it also gives you the option to choose which format you want to download in, as shown in the picture

Then you use the provided sharing url. If you're trying to prevent copying, then not only is it a dick move, it's futile. If it's on the web, it can be copied.

The recording/mp3 is hosted. That file won't be auto-erased after you close the page (for a month or so anyway). That's what the URLs and "sharing options" are for.

But if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need.
