I upgraded win 7 to win 8 pro to win 8.1 pro and everything seemed to run smoothly. I run a biostar hi-fi 77 motherboard and I not leaving well enough alone went on Biostar's web page to see if maybe the motherboard drivers had been tweaked to win 8.1. Not long after this I suddenly got a blue screen saying my win 8 had not started properly and it would fix itself - well it couldn't and with a pile of pulled out hair on my keyboard I can not boot into win 8.1 normally without getting the blue screen. from the help features on blue screens I can boot into safe mode and as now can access web pages and post to this web forum. I have tried everything except removing the battery overnight. No normal boot into win 8.1. machine runs like a charm in safe mode but there is no sound and no network access. I had run for a couple of weeks with 8.1 Pro with no problems (and wonder of wonders it runs my flight simulator like a champ, win 8 would never install the program).
I did find that reinstalling the on board video drivers would correct the problem but at any time it would suddenly go to blue screen and cease to function again in normal mode. Intel just put out new video drivers for win 8.1 systems and that seems to have cured the video problems but I'm still "talking to you" in safe mode. Any ideas????? I'll check back in the morning. I hope I didn't pick up malware that causes start to corrupt.
