only recognizing 1gig ram?

I have an ecs rc410 motherboard and I just installed another gig of ram, I already had 1gig and it only recognized about 512mb of it, now that i've installed the second gig it only recognizes 1gig. I have an onboard radeon express 200 and has 256mb ram in it. I used cpu-z to check how much ram it recofnizes says 1024mb

Have you tried the memory in a different computer? Reading through the manual as long as the memory is unbuffered memory it should pick up the appropriate sizes automatically. What speed are you using? Also make sure you have the latest BIOS.

well tried updating bios didn't work, even cpu-z recognizes 1gig only both ram work, when using only one

Are you using single channel DDR2 memory ?

That says dual channel. But your M/B site says single channel. I am not sure that this would be a problem but I would contact either M/B manufacturer and/or memory maker and ask them if this is compatible memory.

Also, how many memory slot do you have ? Looks like just 2.

You have tried switching memory around in slots.

Also, have you tried taking some canned air and blowing out the memory slots. If you do, make sure you let dry completely before re-installing memory modules.

yes I only have 2 slots because its a micro mb but it says i can have up0 to 2 gigs in it , both mobo and ram are completely new.

Then assuming (but I wouldn't) that the memory is compatible with M/B, then looks like one of the slots may be defective.

P. S. - Also, check to see if a BIOS update is need to recognize memory but I doubt it.

Don't know if it makes any difference, but the ram you are using is not on the short list of tested and approved ram for the mb.

From you're description it sounds like your board is recognizing only 512mb per stick. This definately sounds like a RAM compatibility issue. You may want to try contacting ECS or pqi, but I'm not sure how much help they might be. I'd recommend trying to return the RAM for another brand, possibly one which uses NANYA ram chips (this could be difficult to verify, and really most ram modules should be compatible), as that appears to be the only one tested w/ 1gb modules.
