I haven't committed all these steppings and their rank to memory.

It is the 146, CABYE 0540FPMW.

That stepping is the middle of the line stepping. THe CABGE is the crappy one I think.

I have this chip and am currently at 2.74, the most this motherboard will go. Still at stock volts and load temp is 41 with a big typhoon. Hopefully a new bios for this motherboard (asrock dual) will get me to 3ghz. You should be fine with a decent motherboard/cooling.

Well the problem now is I have no money after unexpected expenses. So here I am with a cpu and videocard but no motherboard.

I wonder what the fools on Ebay will buy it for

I would probably have to pay 15% restocking fee. How did I miss a past bill payment...sigh....

Buy my stuff!

Ok two people have PM me about my opteron.
I am not selling it if I can help it. If I can get my stuff sold / traded for cash / mb then I can get by til my next check within 2 weeks.
See my sig!
Of course, if the people on Ebay are buying for $200+ then I may be tempted.

you got a PCI-e vid card BEFORE you got a motherboard? WTF?

Anyway -> $103

I got an Opteron 146 CABYE0540FPAW as part of an upgrade for my niece, and in someone elses computer it can reach 3.1GHz (2Hrs primed), but like itsrunninghot the mobo the chip is destined for leaves it at 2.74GHz (2T memory) or 2.33GHz (1T memory)

Take it to Ebay IT, you may get $300+ for it. I got $300 for my CABYE 146 0536 a couple of weeks ago...sold it in 2 hours...I started it at $285 + 15 shipping, took the money and ran. Profitted $51.

If you read my post again you will see that I had unexpected bills...after I already ordered the cpu and videocard..

Exactly. That's silly. You should have ordered a motherboard before a video card, in almost any situation. Vid card prices drop exponentially faster than motherboards over time.

I have plain PCI vid cards laying around for that reason. At least then you'd be able to toy with your CPU while you wait to afford a GPU.

By no means am I dissing. I feel sorry for your problem But live and learn right?

whoa...Monarch is now selling the opteron for $241. I paid $159.

Either way, I would still be left with a system with no way of using it, video card or no. You can't use a motherboard without the video card. This was a complete system turn around except for the RAM which I can recycle from my XP system.

A motherboard would have likely been cheaper than the videocard, leaving enough to go to a local pc shop and buy a cheap PCI card. That would at least allow you to install windows and do stability testing and find your max overclock.

The Opteron 146 prices are like a bipolar chick.

Videocard is the Connect3D x800 gto, so yes if I bought the MB used here on the forums it would have been cheaper.

I guess I will put up my other equipment on Ebay as well as trying to sell it here.

It's pants creaming time for you, unless you have a real dud. From what I've seen, 146 CABYE 0540FPMW's are constantly hitting 3ghz.

Maybe I should sell the gto instead.

I'd keep that CPU and sell the card, unless you can get back significantly more than you paid for it. It might be hard to get another one like it in the future.

On a side note, does anyone know how the FPAW, FPBW and FPMW ones compare? (all CABYE 0540s)

I've mostly just seen FPMWs, so I'm not sure.

The FPAW I got can reach 3GHz on air in any other motherboard except the one it's supposed to go in.

Good to Bad (generally, certain weeks have shown to be better performers):

CABNE
CABYE
CAB2E
CABGE

It should be noted, that for the price (unless you've purchased a 150/152 Opty), NONE of these are bad chips to have.

Myself? I've got a CAB2E that's just waiting for a Thermalright XP-120 to arrive today.
