just curious, what is your experience using an optical mouse in games? do you ever experience mouse lag, or any other disturbances?
also, in your opinion, which is better in games: optical or a regular ball mouse?

this may be a stupid question but my friend's optical frequently skips..i think this might have to do with the reflection off the mousepad..

please post your experience and enlighten me =).

Play a lot of FPS games. I love my optical mouse and would never go back to a ball mouse.

Optical mice are excellent for gaming, however some are better then others, one of the best is the Logitech Dual optical mouse which has two optical sensors for better tracking,I`m using the old Logitech Optical Mouseman Wheel(blue one) and it`s very good for gaming,I`ll never go back to the old ball type mouse .

Mine has no lag,if your friends optical mouse skips he needs a better surface or mouse pad for the sensor,or has the acceleration set too low.

I use the microsoft explorer Optical its about three years old. BUT when playing shooter games if I try to turn to fast it goes screwy. Is there anyway to fix this? Have they fixed this in the newer Opticals? I have been thinking about going back to a regular mouse for games.

I'm using the Wireless Intellimouse explorer, and it is the best mouse I have ever used, either for gaming or normal every day use. It is also very comfortable, and the batteries last a few months.

Early optical mice (especially the optical Intellimouse 1.0) do have difficulty tracking very fast movement, which usually shows itself in FPS before any other type of game. No way to fix this that I know of, short of replacing it with a newer mouse.

The newer opticals don't exhibit this problem. I switched from an optical Intellimouse to an Intellimouse Explorer (3.0) and it kicks major bootay in anything I throw at it.

If your friend is using a Logitech mouse with the included mouseware drivers they could be causing trouble for him. I've found mouseware to be unstable and I feel that that hurt performance in games. Your best bet is using the default windows drivers.

I've been using the original Microsoft Intellieye Explorer mouse for more tan two years and it's by far the best mouse I've ever used, especially for games.

I don't have any problems with tracking or accuracy and it works exceptionally well in 3D games.

I think this is because all original opticals has relatively slow capture rates, so higher sensitivities in games don't get picked up as well. I'm using an Logitech Ifeel and I highly reccommend it.

My Wireless Intellimouse Explorer has no lag time whatsoever. I prefer it over the Intellimouse Explorer for two reasons. 1) It's wireless (duh!), 2) It is more ergonomically desgined which equates to more comfort.

Optical is way better for gaming....most noticable in first person shooter due to improved accuracy.
