Well I had the Creative 7600 mouse but replaced it with the Razer Copperhead because of drivers and support. Copperhead works well with my rocketfish pad. Sad thing is I can't use it with my qck pad cause my flick shots makes all kinds of weird movement with cloth.

Laser here, have had an MX1000 since they came out. Still use various ball mice (not trackball) now and then, but I cant stand optical for some reason. Probably because I game at a very low sensitivity. Play pretty much everything: RPGs, Shooters, RTSs, etc.

Laser currently, but I can't tell much of a difference between optical and laser personally.

Laser. Absolutely no reason to choose optical. My laser has no trouble with at least 2 surfaces that raped my old optical, causing it to skip or just die.

Ditto.

Its the dogs bollocks.

I absolutely love this mouse and it opened my world up. Had been gaming with an optical Microsoft intellimouse(?) or something similar... this is insane compared to that. on the fly sensitivity adjustment pegged to a button is awesome mid-game.

my infrared can handle every surface I've thrown at it. And it's cheaper than laser, albeit not by a lot, 1800dpi with 1000hz polling and adjustable sensitivity isn't a cheap mouse by any means. heh

Don't have a cat, eh? I always have cat hairs get stuck in the little opening where the sensor is. No problem with optical mice, but the laser ones catch the hair and it gets all crazy.

I also have an MX1000 that I bought a few years ago (maybe a year after it came out). I love it, and I think it's way better than the MX Revolution (more like MX too many scroll wheels amirite?).

However, it's showing its age. It still tracks great, but clicking the scroll wheel doesn't always work anymore, and it's picky about how I place it on the charger. If I don't fiddle with it and make sure it's seated just right, it won't charge.

I don't know if you've tried this, but use an eraser on the charging contacts of the mouse and charger. I do mine when it starts acting up, and it always fixes the problem. White vinyl erasers work better than the old pinkys do.

Just got a G9 laser mouse from a deal I saw in Hot Deals forum. So far I like it a lot. Very smooth.

Optical. I've got an mx500. I'm waiting for logitech to release a new wireless mouse similar to the G7(but with two side buttons) or G9.

A revised G7 with two side buttons instead of the one would be perfect but I use the side buttons way to much to give one of them up.

I have an optical MX518. There are no tracking problems on a wooden desk surface, and I haven't had any real reason to upgrade.

Does anyone else use the Logitech Trackman Wheel? I'm a fairly younger gamer and I honestly think this trackball has no negate (or positive) effect on my gaming, perhaps it's just a matter of preference. I do just as well in FPS games, but the only gripe I have is that no one has made a solid gaming trackball with extra buttons

Optical, me and my intellimouse 1.0 are very good at FPS games, who needs 4000 DPI when theres a setting in most games options to raise/lower mouse sensitivity? Never understood that.

I tried a microsoft HABU and hated it, every time i lifted the mouse up to bring it back to the center of the mousepad it would still track and the pointer would move.

Still rocking my 3-4 year old MX500. Works like a charm on my wood table. No need for anything new...

g9 here... I love it. Upgraded from the G7. Smoothness is about the same. Only upside, no changing batteries.

Had that exact problem after a few years on mine, talked to Logitech about it, and eventually it stopped charging at all. Asked if they would send me a new charger, so they sent me a retail MX-Revo free of charge. The new power plug from that one fixed the charging problem.

The only noticeable difference is marketing. Laser sounds better.

Technically laser is a form of optical tracking...

I use an OCZ Equalizer with adjustable DPI. It's "laser" but I notice no real difference over a good "optical" mouse.
