Yes, but no one acts shocked when it's announced that someone, somewhere, won the lottery. No one is sitting around staring at their TV watching the lottery drawing thinking "HOLY FUCK, WE HAD NO IDEA THAT COULD EVER HAPPEN!" unless they're the actual winner. That's how it used to be with mass shootings; I remember the shock and disbelief when Columbine happened. Now? We just reset our "__ Days Without Mass Shooting" calendar and carry on like nothing happened. It's just like the lottery, actually; it's pretty goddamn rare that it will happen to you specifically, but it's happening to someone almost daily around the country.
