So I bought BF3 on origin yesterday. Origin is the biggest piece of shit I've ever used.
I have to re-download the game cause it decided it would stop a 50% and start over. This devastating cause I can only download at 80KB/s. This isn't the 1st time this has happened. It happened with the beta too. Goes so far than starts over.

The friend's list is also broken as it shows me on my list of friends online, when I click on that profile, It's my brother's profile that Origin would give the same name as mine.

I don't even want to start downloading the game cause I'm so pissed off and it will probably do the same thing. Where the hell does it even keep downloaded content?

There's a listing under settings where you can pick where it saves your stuff to and if you want to keep the d/l file.

Thanks, I told it to save the installer.

Does that mean if something goes wrong Origin won't delete the installer and start over?

I love origin. Transferred my DL at 11.5-12.5 MB/s. Downloaded the whole 10+GB in 25 min, I thought it was amazing. Started up, in game with no problems.

I've never used steam, but origin is fantastic.

steam does the same. It hits you up for your maximum bandwidth when not gaming and stops it if you decide to play an online game.

I don't know if this is an Origin issue or BF3, but I keep having to repair my install and it takes forever. I don't like the UI for Origin at all either. Steam has spoiled me, because when I download an update, I'm use to that being it, but with Origin you have to install and everything, feels weird when I haven't installed a game/patch in sometime.

Overall, I just don't like it and wouldn't even be using it if it wasn't for BF3.

It is called "Beta" for a reason.

i got a BF3 key and when i went to D/L the game, the installer got stuck in a loop between "preparing" and "installing"

The only solution to this now well-known issue for some ISPs is to decipher the manifest and get the D/L in a zip file from a browser. Then create a BF3 folder inside Origin games and then unzip the files into it and start the launcher. And then fool with PunkBuster or you get kicked off the servers.

What do you think of that as a workaround?

Hmm, worked fine for me. Downloaded it early thanks to the pre-order. Also bought and downloaded Fifa 12 at a more than acceptable pace. So far, I don't mind Origin at all; just like a less-polished version of Steam (which I really enjoy).

Well thats one thing. Origin Downloads incredibly fast. It's all for naught if I can't even finish the DL in the first place.

Exaggeration I know, still sucks cause It won't be finished before I have to start working again.

Maybe it reliably download anything over more than one day. With restarts and everything.

Use both.. Like both... I'm with ya on origin though and the DL speed. I got about 12mbs at a time when I was downloading BF3.

Never seen steam do anything close too 10mb. Tops I have seen is 6mb or so. Origin has shinned when it has come to that at times.

Could just be that origin doesn't have that many people DL'ing. The only game of note is BF3 and Fifa12 that came out. While steam has a lot more people using it and a lot more games.

I'd like to think so, but I had the exact same problem as you. Pre-ordered, started d/ling from Origin, got half-way done and tried to finish from that point. It wouldn't let me so I had to start all over again. Took me a week before I could start playing. Maybe I didn't understand the folder structure, but I couldn't get it to restart from the half-way point so maybe it only works on full d/ls where it saves the installer.

Origin at this point doesn't have a point and click way to backup games like Steam does either so saving the installer seems to be the only way.

I'm getting the feeling some people are using Megabits (Mb) and Megabytes (MB) interchangeably. I have the fastest highspeed I can get in this area without going to fiber and its rated at 22-25 megabits per second, but thats only around 3-4 megabytes. On my fastest days I'm averaging around 3.5-4.0 MB per second.

I'm not saying people who claim they are getting 10+ MB/s are wrong because I don't know what types of connections they have, but I can safely that for people with average connections those numbers seem extraordinarily high.

Bought BF3 retail key, entered retail key in Origin, downloaded 11GB in approx 2.5hrs...the max my line can handle. So the DL speed with Origin is not a problem, this here in Spain. I expected much worse for DL speed. But this doesnt mean i like Origin...although TODAY they did an upgrade so the serverbrowser got a little better.

The only issue i had after DL and installing was that i still had to manually "register" Origin since after starting BF3 it thought that Origin wasn't running. But i looked up the error and found the solution quickly.

i believe they had 5 million users before BF3 came out
:whiste:

Now that i know how to decipher the game manifest, i can get the zip file every time from a browser - then it is pretty simple to extract it to Origin Games on the multiple PCs that i test.

Honestly, I haven't been having any issues (aside one that's detailed below), it even looks like the offline feature for Origin is much kinder than Steam. I was able to play BF3 last night (internet was down) while my Steam account refused to even go offline (even with my login credentials saved).

My biggest issue with Origin was the fact it told me the name "Clinkster" was unavailable and I chose "Clinkinator" instead thinking it wouldn't really matter, BC2 I was able to make a separate account with Clinkster as my name. Instead, BF3 comes along and takes your Origin name. Go figure.

The headscratcher is Clinkster isn't even taken. =/

No issues here. Took me about 30 minutes to download and the dl never failed. No issue with server browser, launcher, ect. Origin definitely has that bloat wear feel to it.

It happened again. I fucking hate this thing. Maybe I should just download a torrent and install it from there.

Origin's been a pleasant surprise for me. This thread should be re-titled, "Origin sucks if you live in Namibia".
