Rebellion is releasing the original 1999 version of Aliens vs. Predator in the run-up to its new game of the same name, with the 11 year old game coming to Steam at a budget price.

Initially the game will ship with the single-player mode only with a free patch that enables multiplayer following soon after. Rebellion's CEO Jason Kingsley said that Aliens vs. Predator's budget price will reflect this, telling IGN "It'll be very cheap – and it shows it's age a little bit, but it is frightening and it is difficult. We will in due course fix up the multiplayer – and we'll make sure it's a free download."

There are currently no plans to bring the game to Xbox Live Arcade or PlayStation Network although this could change soon. Rebellion's all-new take on Aliens vs. Predator continues to impress – read our latest impressions and stay tuned for more details in the near future.

Thats still a pretty OK game.

Albeit the new one comes out soon so IDK.

It's why I bought my Jaguar back in the day.

AVP!

I think the most interesting part about this is that they are actually taking time over a Steam re-release.

Too many games just get thrown on there with issues remaining and no one to care to fix them.
Thank god Rebellion are actually going to fix up MP rather than releasing it as-is.

Woooo! AvP was one of the finest FPS games ever made. From the ultra badassedness of the Predator, the stealth/wall-climbing/hunting challenge of the Alien, and the loaded-for-bear but ultra fragile Marine who has to throw flares and endure that terrifying pinging motion tracker.

WHOOOOOO what a great game!

Playing the Marine was SO tense!

That stupid Motion Tracker...still makes me jump when I start hearing pings

Just for doing the re-release right.

I'm going to be buying the new AvP soon as it's available on steam. (I'd even Pre-Order if there's a pre-order discount).

Yeah I'll definately be on the pre-purchase bandwagon.

I loved the Original..and I believe that i'll get my moneys worth.

Maybe they will have a 4 pack deal.

I thought the original AVP didn't actually work on any current video card, due to recent drivers breaking something-or-other? Last I saw there were very long threads on nvidia-related and other sites looking for a fix, I think the best anyone managed was to fix the game while breaking the in-game videos? The only machine I have that it runs on is the one with a voodoo3 as a second card.

Will the steam version be fully fixed then?

I ran it on a 7800GT awhile ago.

Thanks for the info. I have noticed a lot of older games on Steam have not been upgraded for modern OS support. Good to see that wasn't done here.

I will be picking it up.

When they said budget price, I was expecting something... more expensive.

Nice that they have such a low price and actually tried to make it work with newer computers.

$5

I never played the original game. Is it really that good?

Woot! I'll have to grab it when I get home.

I hope with that price we see it hit top of the sales charts. Maybe it will encourage others to patch up and re-release older games. There's many of us that will rebuy classic games that are patched for Win Vista/7 compatibility and to have them on steam if they are $5.

I'll gladly pay $5 not to have to dig an old disk out of storage and download half a dozen community patches to get it to work.

Yep definitely worth $5. And the game is tough, esp on the hardest setting (you only get 2 saves per level playing as the Marine.)

£2.99 in the UK... slightly under $5... cheaper than America for once

This game had the very best Missile Launcher effects ever. BOOM! then the backdraft of flames came back through the tunnel, shaping perfectly to it's size.

I remember this game crashing my old computer back in the day...was awesome. Hopefully it doesn't crash my computer now.

Picked it up, I have a CD copy laying in a pile somewhere but for $5 it's worth grabbing again, especially if they update the online MP component.

I remember the Atari Jaguar's AvP, it was really good for a console FPS of that time. Probably one of the few good games for that system.

Instant buy, that's the type of game, for me at least, that I just can't ignore especially at such a low price, and somehow I knew that something would happen this Friday (as is the case on Steam about each Friday now, anyone noticed? It's either week-end deals or some developer-specific deals on specific titles and so on, now it's this one, and I like it, that's for sure). I'll have to play it later tonight after I finish what I believe are the last levels of Defense Grid, thanks for the heads up about this by the way.
