I love making popcorn in my new oil popper I got 6 months ago. However, I see Pop Secret and Orville. I know both of those brands. Which tastes better?

I typically go with Orville but I think it used to be better when I was younger.

+1 for popping your own

Not sure I've ever seen a popcorn thread here, but I expect to see a bunch of posts about how both of those are shit and how some obscure brand is way better. And the only alternative is to grow your own corn.

Jiffy pop old school aluminum over the stove. I used to love that crap. Many time the thing would literally catch on fire and popcorn on fire is not that easy to put out.

My daughter loves popcorn. she loves hyvee bulk stuff. it's cheap and really good

but if you don't have a hyvee either one is good. we have even had good luck with the walmart brand stuff.

My family makes popcorn literally every other day in our house (oil popper of course).
We've tested and tried about every brand of popcorn out there. Orville wins hands down both for taste and pop-ability.

Also I recommend coconut oil for that movie theater taste. If not, do 1/2 canola and 1/2 olive oil for a little "heavier" popcorn.

And of course you need to use popcorn salt - Mortons.

In closing: Orville.

Orville.

My cousin up north grows some for them, or used to.

They are pretty strict on what popcorn they will even purchase.

I just buy a 2kg package of store brand kernels and pop it the old school method:

a stainless steel pot and some oil with a sprinkling of salt and a pat or 2 of butter. Yes, it takes effort to make it but it tastes great.

Pop Secret Homestyle > *. Orville used to be awesome, but now it's like they took all of the taste out of their butter but left in all the grease. Started putting less popcorn in their bags too.

Is there even much of a difference between popcorn that doesn't come in a bag? I mean, I can understand bag popcorn being significantly different, but with just some kernels, who gives a shit. Just throw butter on it and it will be about the same.

Get the cheapest shit money can buy.

i prefer white over yellow popcorn.

most of the stuff in stores is butterfly, but if you want to candy coat look for mushroom.

I use amish popcorn in a paper bag with 1tsp oil and 1/4tsp salt. Fold the bag over twice, give it a shake, place in microwave (you can staple the bag if you like) and boom, instant popcorn.

I just use whatever I get in bulk.

I always add flavacol
I prefer to use Coconut oil for the oil, but I know it's quite horrible for me

I really can't imagine plain unpopped kernels are so different. I would just buy whatever is the cheapest.

Microwave: Pop Secret Homestyle
Traditional: Orville

We get the 8# tub of unpopped Orville from Costco and it is light years better than anything else I've had from a store.
