I supposed it's due to the 2d rendering now? Or possbily something different.

I got to use my Mini (1.25; 1GB 32MB 9200 ) on Panther and it moved good.

My dock w/ magnification on, flowed smoothly.

Not it seems kinda sluggish and choppy, and expose it a bit slower..

Overall the new additions are nice, would just like a little bit of the "snap" back.

the video card Radeon 9200 doesn't support core image or quarts 2d extreme. believe my on my powerbook there was a big jump from panter to tiger

its strange though becuase tiger is supposed ot be at least as fast as panther was. COre image was a big reason why I upgraded from my old ibook to a pb

Hmmmm... maybe it has something to do with Spotlight indexing. Right after the installl of Tiger spotlight will index your HD - this is done as a background task, but will slow down the computer somewhat while going on. Luckily it only has to be done once.

Seems just graphical performance is laggy, overall system seems about the same.

I do notice the SLIGHT delay Anand talked about when highlighting menus...

Did not notice on Panther. 10.3.9

Thats probably why. I am by no means an apple expert, but I heard that the mini struggles with high resolution monitors because it only have 32MB ram.

That can be a issue. You only have a certain amount of texture space in memory... Then it will start accessing main memory to much.

Maybe try it at 16bit color or something like that. Keep in mind that Mini isn't a speed demon...

I have a 32 MB GeForce2 MX Cube, and overall Tiger feels faster than Panther. For Exposé it feels the same. Dock magnification feels the same too.

Dashboard is OK, but it takes too long to update sometimes.

Guys, with CoreImage capable cards, note that Quartz Extreme 2D is turned off by default. Don't know why.

I was at my university bookshop this morning, and the computer shop guy was playing with Tiger. It was a little slow and played up like hell. That was on a "better" iMac G5. I have a friend who has it on a 12" PB 1.5GHz, and it runs really nicely. I suppose it depends on your machine, and what installation method you used to install it.

Well, it also depends on how many app windows you have open, and the size of the screen.

The 1.5 GHz PowerBook 12" is only 1024x768, but has 64 MB. OTOH, the 20" iMac is 1680x1050, yet has the same 64 MB. I'm hoping the next iMac comes with a 128 MB GPU.

Expose' seems about the same, it's really just the dock that seems like it is laggy..

Dashboard and F12 work well, smooth transistions.

:Q

ODD.

My buddy has a 1ghz (12in ) ibook and his dock is definitely slowed up as well..

The dock magnify effect, expose, and even the genie animation all became VERY choppy when I installed Tiger on my G4 with 32mb VRAM. Actually, it was so bad I went back to Panther because I couldn't stand it. I really hope an update fixes this issue

I agree. I like Spotlight and Dashboard so I'll stick it out...

Wierd hearing about the slowdowns because I am running a slower mac than any of those previously mentioned... I just installed Tiger on a G3 800MHz iBook with 640MB of RAM, and I didn't notice any slowdown whatsoever from Panther. I did a clean install though, not an upgrade. This thing is definately not a speed demon, but it works for what I need it for and it isn't choppy by any means.

My iBook 12" 1.2GHz runs much quicker on Tiger than Panther. Our machines have very similar specs, altho I am limited to 1024x768. Even when I span the screen to have an extra 1280x960 desktop it moves along just fine. I do not, however, magnify my dock. Same GPU, similar everything else, yet our experiences are completely different...How much HD space do you have left on your install partition (if partitioned)?

About 20 GB's

I also have a fresh copy of Panther, that went straight to a tiger upgrade.

No other programs or anything installed.
