Canoo is amazing! Completely modularized EV.

Pickup. 6ft truck bed can be expanded to 8ft! Beats Tesla's Cybertruck easily.

I think it will definitely come down to how that 200 miles of range is calculated. I can only imagine it’s best case, and if it is, I can’t imagine that being a highly usable range for a lot of construction situations, especially in climates where a lot of traditional work trucks get idled for heat. A heat pump can of course help here, but it depends on the design and how functional that is. The last part of course is trailering. If you can attach a trailer to it great, but if doing so turns your 200 mile range to 100 “optimal”, it would be a tough sell. For instance, a Model Y with 300 miles or so of “optimal range” evaporates to just 100 miles of range with a 3000 pound trailer.

That said, we’re still talking fringe cases. But if you’re building a vehicle specifically geared towards the utility and contractor market, I think you’ve got a much larger hurdle to cross vs. passenger vehicles for the 95% of people out there who will never put a thing in their shiny pickup’s bed nor ever install a hitch.

It can be configured for 4 seats. 200 miles range is a bit low, though.

I bet those would be some ridiculously tiny, sideways jump seats, because the cabin is really too small for normal direction facing rear seats. Initially when they announced this, it was as a two seater, and likely owing to market reality they seem to be tacking on rear "seats" in theory.

Really the Cabin is oddly sized. Overkill for 2 seats, and too small for 4 seats. While from the outside it looks like you get a lot of passenger space from a cab forward design, when you see inside its a different story. There is a massive distance from the front glass to the driver. It's too bad they couldn't have moved the driver position a bit more forward to reclaim some of that space.

I mean you can not use the top of the steering wheel right now if that's your thing.

I'm pretty sure that everyone, including Tesla, says that you should be in control of the vehicle at all times.
Nope, Elon said that by the end of 2020, customer-owned Teslas would be operating as highly profitable robotaxis ferrying strangers around town while the owners are busy counting their money. This year they're removing physical controls and door handles; next year the yoke and pedals will disappear too.

Yeah, it looks odd they left so much space in the front. Maybe it's required by law that you must have a huge crumple zone for collision safeguard?

If that was available today, I would 100% buy that over a Cybertruck. It's like a Bollinger crossed with a Cybertruck, LOVE the functionality! Plus I'm a sucker for suicide doors haha.

Regarding power outages, yeah...my buddy's power line got cut & he was out for a few days & couldn't charge his car lol. Helps to keep it topped off all the time in case of an emergency, but there's always been times when things are down state-wide so even public charges aren't functional.

Having just lived through widespread power outages I can tell you only a few gas stations were open and they had long lines. Took. Me 45 minutes to get gas for my generator.

Better hope you don’t need gas or are one of the lucky ones who gets gas before the gas station runs out of power or fuel.

It’s also why I’m upgrading my generator to one that takes natural gas.

If you go with EV then having solar is practically a no brainer if you have room on your property so don't have to worry about power outages. One nice thing about EVs is being a bit more self sufficient in that sense. Way easier to make electricity than it is to make gas. My property sucks for solar and my options are very limited though but I still have a small 400w array. I plan to tie that into the house at some point with separate plugs throughout the house and eventually a transfer switch to put the whole house on inverter (obviously not try to run everything at once).

The TX incident made me realize how ill prepared I am for an extended outage. Just because we never get them here does not mean it can't happen one day. Sure I could get a generator but I still need to get gas which won't be easy if there is a widespread outage.

If I did in fact get an EV I would try to add more solar though. My options are kind of limited but I do have a few potential areas that could work, such as if I build a pergola over my deck, which I eventually want to do. I have room for at least 1kw. Having around 2-3kw of solar would be the sweet spot for an EV as you can at lest use the 120v charger. Does not help if your at work all day though... But in my case I work shifts so I can still charge on my days off.

Um.. gas pumps run on electricity FYI.

Ouch. That's a huge blow to Canoo, in a crowded EV startup market where that kind of partnership give much credibility.

Canoo also when public via a SPAC, which is always a concern as it lets companies IPO with less oversight.
