outlook 2003

the "email notification" icon shows up when you get new mail in outlook 2003 (winxp os). if you do not read your mail, and just ignore it, or your away from your pc for a while, that icon is not there anymore. it goes away after some amount of time, maybe an hour? how can i config this so that email notification envelope icon stays in the notification area until the email that is new is read? option two would be, that notification that pops up, how to set it for perm. so it doesn disappear after the max time which i think is 30s. but preferably would like to have the envelope icon stay until that new mail is actually "read." its not like its no longer considered active and hides itself since clicking the < will not show the new mail icon there. if there is no config solution, please point me to a software that will display an icon and stay there until the mail is physically read. i have over a dozen PC that people noticed this issue on, and they want that little icon to stay, but i can't find the answer via google, thanks for any help.

The small yellow icon in the task tray stays indefinitely for me...well, at least overnight.

The desktop alert (the popup window) goes away after a few seconds, and can be adjusted up to 30 seconds.

[Edit] Maybe XP is hiding the icon because it thinks it's inactive?

as soon as a user in outlook 2003 clicks from the inbox (this is while the "new mail notification" is in the notification area of the task bar.) over to the calendar portion of outlook and starts working there for a minute, the notification envelope vanishes without a trace, no longer indicating there is new mail, or unopened mail... i need a solution to have this not occur. i'm coming up empty handed, looking at 3rd party software, they make email notification software, but its basically pop, this site is using the email via an exchange server.

it makes no sense the notification vanishes once a user goes from mail portion of outlook, to the calendar. there is still unopened and new mail, and the notification icons are set to "always show" so its not like they just hide on their own, outlook kills them off when you work between the mailbox, and calendar.

mine well stay until i select the email and then de-select it, i have had an icon present even when the last email i received was several days old.
so i guess what i am saying is "i cant help" SORRY

every pc i have looked at after the 1 client told me about it happening ends up showing this same exact thing, every outlook 2003, (exchange servers are handling mail at every site I went to) and multiple client sites experience the notification envelope vanishing when someone goes from "mail" keeping in mind that no one even opens the new mail item, then switches to the group calendar to work, ends up having the notification disappearing, when someone switches back to ?mail? it doesn?t come back either. But the messages are still highlighted as new/unread messages.. its weird, but there has to be a solution somewhere, where do i even look? Is this just how it is, and leave it like that?
