overclock disaster

OK, this is my own fault:

Got an A8N-Sli deluxe with 3800x2 (s939), 7800gtx and 7100gs in it. Used to run it from its stock 2ghz at 2.5ghz with no problems, but when the CMOS battery died and I replaced it, I never bothered taking it back up to 2.5ghz again and left it back at stock 2ghz.

Today, in a fit of boredom and stupidity, I lowered the HT to 4 so to run the memory slower and set the bus to 250mhz. Yup, "remembering" your settings is never a good idea, always refer to the notes or work your way up etc.

Reset the machine and now all I can get is one long beep, followed by two short beeps. No post, no nothing. Clearing CMOS doesn't make any difference.

Hard to take it all apart as the watercooling is everywhere, but I've had all the cards out and no matter what the result is the same. Currently, no card and no memory, still the same song.

The question is I guess, for what I've done above have I most likely killed it stone dead ? Or any suggestions as to what else I might try ?

Thanks for any advice (apart from that about going up in small increments etc and taking notes - obviously this was a stupid thing to do).

Unplug from wall, pull CMOS battery, let it stand for minimum 30 minutes (or maybe overnight). Put battery back in and try again.

you need to cut wall power when reset CMOS. but anyways, i think as soon as you clear up cmos it'll come bk.

You haven't really done anything illegal, try doing what Denithor and Iansalot said, and if it doesn't work maybe your new battery is broken.

Does your board have a clear CMOS jumper and/or button on the MB itself? This would be a quick way to reset the BIOS settings to defaults...

Well, that worked a treat! Apparently when I went out to buy a sandwich and came back and ate it, that wasn't long enough for the board to discharge. First thing I tried was the CMOS jumper, but it didn't make a blind bit of difference.

Went on the 360 for a couple hours, tried it after and up it came. Odd, in that when I replaced the battery, the settings were lost instantly. Yet it took over 2 hours for the settings to discharge this time. Still the end result is the same, machine is back up and running.

Just as well as the new 9450's aren't out till January. Thanks for the advice all.
