overclock memory but not CPU?

Hi,

I plan to build a new pc with core i7-920.
Can I set QPI to 6.4(not 4.8) or set memory to 1600(not 1066) but keep the CPU on stock speed?
Any motherboard allow me to only overclock memory?

You increase the bus and reduce the multiplier, then you can get the CPU close to stock speed. You can use a tool like "RMClock" to reduce the multiplier. But currently RMClock is no updated, so it doesn't support i7.

You can individually adjust the memory up to a higher speed AND you can individually adjust the "QPI multi" default of 133 up to raise the effective QPI bandwith.

just out of curiosity, is there any reason really besides ram disks to want to overclock your memory but not your CPU? most applications are more than covered with current memory bandwidth even on DDR2, the only things that are memory bound are things like database servers and the like, unless you're using apps that use a lot of scratch disk time like photoshop, where a RAMDisk is beneficial
