Overclocking & Clipping

I just installed a new 1.6A processor in my computer today. It is running at 2.4 @ the default 1.5v just fine. However, I've noticed slight video clipping when running demoes. Is it possible that overclocking the processor can cause video clipping? I'm pretty sure it isn't the video card's problem because I switched the video memory and GPU Mhz back to default (250/443). This did not rid my system of the clipping problems. Of course, it may just be that I live in Davis where it gets to 100 degrees everday (slightly warmer inside). I'll see what happens when I run the test again at midnight.

Maybe I need to up the vcore to 1.55?

it should have nothing to do with your temps, and or voltage. what is your fsb running at? don't forget that overclocking the fsb also ups the agp bus, and doing so can also cause clipping, and or tearing, clock the system down to normal and see if it goes away to see if it's your busses.

What mobo???

What vid card???

Your current agp/pci at 150fsb should be 75/37.5....most vid cards should do that easily....

Also look at drivers as an issue...again what vid card??? Also thorw in OS you are running...


Edit: I guess the vcore could be an issue....BUt if it is, that means you are not effective testing your system. This should have never made it rhough minutes of prime95 or one pass of 3dmark2k1....

It so easily could be related to direct x installation or specific display driver...

Hmm a lot of things to answer yet. I'll start with Duvie:

1) GIgabyte 845EXP
2) Aopen Ti 4200
3) I havne't tinkered with the AGP/PCI ratios yet. I should reduce it in half?
4) Running XP with latest Detonators
5) Vcore could be an issue... but I ran 3dMark2001 3 times through with no problems. THen I ran Prime for an hour... no problem.
6) DX8.1

I haven't effectively tested my system yet because I have a strange and annoying bug. Everytime i restart the computer.. there's a 50% chance that I won't get any audio. Removing the drivers and rebooting fixes it 75% of the time. I am using a PCI audio card, nothing fancy. The onboard audio does not give me any audio at all. I think I may have messed up the onboard audio while removing the metal fillers for the case where the PCI slots go. I scratched up the bottom left corner (1/2" mark) and that is where the onbaord audio it. Is it possible to screw up onboard audio in this way but not affect the rest of the system?

Cruze: my FSB is 133 which puts the memory at like 355.

Ok I was trippin about the 2.4... for some reason I thought I still had a 1.8 processor. So the 133 FSB only brings me to 2.12.

Tried 150 FSB for 2.4, but couldn't load. Tried a few settings with memory and AGP/PCI, still could not load at 150. Running on 140 right now so going to keep testing to see its limits.

THink my limit here would be the memory? I have pc2100 Micron

Very likely the ram...drop to the 1:1 multiplier and see if problems continue...I couldn't get my crucial pc2100 to do 333mhz ddr and you are trying 354mhz...
