Overclocking confusion

I have a overclocking situation. I had the abit bx6 rev. 2 mobo that I took a PIII 750 to 1.0 gig. Used active cooling on north bridge to get it to run at 133 fsb stable. no problems under win2000. I had a restarting problem that started to develop, overclocked or not. Narrowed it down to the mobo {sniff sniff}. I has the asus p3v4x mobo laying around, so I slammed that into my case. Now I can't get to chip to overclock to 1.0 gig anymore. the highest fsb it will boot to is 124 mhz. what kind of monkey voodoo is this. raised the voltage, changed to cas settings for the ram, it just won't come on beyond 124 fsb. This board supports 133 officially, while my bx did not, DOH!!! makes no apparent sense to me. any suggestings or explainations would be greatly appreciated.

My friend has the P3V4X, unmodified, it runs 150 FSB no problem on a P3-667. Try to put your active cooling on the Pro 133A, and update the BIOS

I would have done that if it hadn't been for that the fact that it officially supports 133 fsb. Active cooling shouldn't be the problem. As for the updated bios, I have the newest one, checked asus's site. Only other thing that could be the culprit is the use of a slotket, whiched worked on my BX system fine. weird

I had a P3V4X about a year ago. I remember that in the BIOS it would ask me what the speed was (the CPU was a PIII 600e), either 400, 600, 800mhz (all multiplier of 6.0), or manual (to get to all the other BUS speeds). I found that it would overclock easily at 800mhz if I selected 800 from that list. If I tried manual, I could not get it above 124mhz. It would not do 133mhz from the manual list, but it would do 800mhz (6.0 x 133) if I chose it from the first list. Why, I do not know. If you have the latest BIOS, you should have 500, 750, 1000, and manual in the initial list. Try setting it to 1000 there.

Excellent point, but I thought of that. I would select the 1000 first and noticed it would not boot up. That is when I tried to selecting the fsb manually, and found that 124 was the highest I could go. I think it is via, they don't compare to the reliability of an intel chipset, and performance. I have heard people having great success in overclocking with this mobo, which makes this matter even more puzzling
