I just bought a Duron 800 and a Abit KT7A and tried the connect the dots trick to OC it. I bought the Circuitworks conductive pen and bridged the gaps but now my computer will not boot. When I power it on it stays up for about 5 seconds and then it just turns off. It never posts so I can't get to the BIOS. I also tried to clear the BIOS but no luck. Has anybody else experienced this or know a way to fix it? I would appreciate any help.

try to remove your conductive markings on the multiplier and reset the cmos. If its not working, you may have shorted your CPU, highly unlikely though. Try the chip on your friend's mainboard. Peace out.

You said you just got the cpu and mb. Did you try booting up before you connected the bridges, if so did it boot successfully? Depending on the bios you have some Abit KT7A's require you have a fan connected to fan header 1. If it does not detect one it will shut you down automatically.

Or maybe the motherboard is the problem. Are the drives spinning up? Do you get any video when it is up "for about 5 seconds"?

When I first built my PC, I would turn on the power supply and the fans would spin and the CDlights would blink and then it would shut down. Eventually I figured out that this always happens when the power supply is first turned on. You then have to hit the power switch on the front of the PC to proceed. I did not have that properly connected at the time, so I thought my PC was dead.

DOUBLE CHECK ALL OF YOUR CONNECTIONS.

It is unlikely that your cpu is damaged.

Well guys thanks for the help. I took the CPU back and they replaced it and now I am running at 1000Mhz =) It seems the other CPU was defective to begin with. I did run it for a little while at the default speed before I O/C it. Well now I am HAPPY!!!
