hello everyone. so i have a opty 170 on a dfi ut n4 expert with a evga 7900gt sig. series. i just recently started overclocking this opty and have done it before with my previous rig on a x2.

i overclocked this opty to 2.5 and is prime stable for 11 1/2 hours. then today when i went to jump on bf2 its like im playing with a piece of junk. i mean everything was all choppy. i couldnt even play. so i thought it was the OC so i turned it back. and still the same. now i dont know what to do. someone help.

There have been many anecdotal testimony including manufacturer's admission regarding 2D/3D issues with memory. In short, it's entirely possible that memory passes memtest, Prime, etc. but it crashes games.

Also, did you check if your video card is not in fault? Many 7900 GT seem to suffer from on-board memory issues, especially when overclocked.

well i didnt put my mem through memtest, and im pretty sure that my video card is okay. i mean i just rmaed it and it was working fine until i started my overclocking. im thinking maybe a OS reload due to the fact that my windows might have been curupted. what do you guys think

It could be your PCI-E clock not being locked have you checked that? Try giving the NB more voltage and try.

With the 7900 series, ALWAYS LOOK AT THE VC FIRST. You would not be first person to have to try several RMA's to actually get a good working card.

I know of a really quick way to find out what's causing your problem. First, run this overnight: MemTest. If it passes, then with your processor at stock speed, use this to remove your video card's driver: DriverCleaner Pro. Chances are that "leftovers" from your last video driver is causing the problem. Then, just reinstall your video driver, and you should be good to go.

i think my pci-e is lock but not too sure with this MOBO. it has way tomany features. does anyone else have this board that can tell me what i have to do to lock it.

i dont think its the drivers cause its a new rig that i built. the only drivers that are installed are the one from when i first installed it.

i will try the mem test tonight. thanks

Id almost gurantee that board has pci-lock, its not a actually settings it just setting the pcix frequency, and normally it is at stock and it stays there unless you change it.

DFI nForce4 boards do not have bios settings for PCI locking, it is automatic.

As for your stability testing, exactly how are you testing using Prime95? Maybe you should try Orthos for dual-core (two instances) testing?

Also, DFI boards are very finicking about memory settings in the bios.

okay so im going to go with thor86 on the pci-e auto locking cause i have looked and i cant find anything.

about the mem. i am using ocz plat. ddr500. i didnt not adjust the ram timings due to the fact that my video is all jacked so i want to work on one thing at a time. its 3-2-3-7 right now. i think its at 1t but i cant find a option for 1t and 2t in the BIOS.

oh and i use prime95 2 instances. 11 1/2 hours prime stable.

do you guys think i should go with a OS reload?
